This Full Moon is a Supermoon

Full Moon Supermoonphoto taken from www.forphotography.com.

The Full Moon on January 30st will be a very interesting event – so interesting that it’s getting its own radio show entitled “Fire and the Full Moon.”  It’s not only a powerful Moon astrologically, but it’s at perigee, meaning it’s at its closest proximity to the Earth.  This is why it is so big and beautiful, but it’s also more powerful now.  Spaceweather says it’s the biggest Full Moon of the year, and astrologer Richard Nolle, who coined the term “Supermoon” as far as I can tell, predicts “an increase in coastal flooding due to higher than usual tides, a gaggle of strong storms with high winds and heavy precipitation (triggering inland flooding), and of course an up-tick in moderate to severe seismic activity (including magnitude 5+ earthquakes as well as volcanic eruptions).”

This Full Moon will stoke the fires of our inner aggression and challenge us to direct that fire wisely. The Moon is in the fire sign of Leo – the sign of expressing the Ego and expansion of the Self. The Leo Moon conjoins Mars, also in Leo, and opposes the Sun and Venus which are both in the impersonal (or transpersonal) sign of Aquarius.

The theme of this Full Moon is that of balancing the shadow of the inner fire for self-direction with the solar conscious principle of fairness and justice for all. This balance is not easy to achieve, but we have in the chart of this Full Moon the additional aid of a harmonious sextile between Pluto (transformation) and Jupiter (philosophy and Truth). We are certainly aware that our personal desires (Moon/Mars) are conflicting with what we know to be necessary in order to achieve harmony in our life (Sun/Venus), but we are inspired to seek the ultimate Truth (Jupiter) so that we can let go of the past and shed the old ways that don’t serve us (Pluto).

The chart for this Full Moon also shows the conjunction of Chiron and Neptune which is extremely tight now, within a half of a degree. The opening of the heart and the soul and the flood of outpouring of emotion that can result is more and more intense at this time. This aspect will culminate in February, but its influence begins with this Full Moon.

The gentle guidance of Pluto and Jupiter is offset by the intensity of the Saturn/Pluto square which is only six minutes from exactitude. This combination is rather like the influence a teacher who is gentle in his strong guidance, but who when crossed reveals a formidable temper. Any attempt to deviate from the lesson required by this Full Moon will be met with challenge and the potential for self-destruction. Serious focus is demanded here, but much will be given in return.

Conspiracy corner: The end of swine flu hysteria?

If you’ve read this blog for a while, you’ve heard me ranting for just about a year now about the hysteria being manufactured over the swine flu.  When Chiron (health and healing) conjoined Neptune (spirituality but also illusion and delusion) beginning last February when they made a close approach, and then again in May and June when their conjunction tightened to within 14 minutes, anxiety over the swine flu escalated. Yet all of the statistics I was observing continued to show that the swine flu was actually less dangerous than the seasonal flu.

We are now in the middle of flu season, and the swine flu has virtually disappeared from the news, leading some European health officials to launch an investigation into the World Health Organization’s misleading the world through building panic around the globe that put billions of dollars into the pockets of drug manufacturers.  In fact, European governments are canceling orders of vaccines and attempting to sell their leftover stock back to the pharmaceutical companies, and India has asked WHO to explain why they manufactured the swine flu threat to benefit the drug companies.

Wolfgang Wodarg, head of health at the Council of Europe, said in an interview with the Daily Mail: “The governments have sealed contracts with vaccine producers where they secure orders in advance and take upon themselves almost all the responsibility.  In this way, the producers of vaccines are sure of enormous gains without having any financial risks. So they just wait, until WHO says ‘pandemic’ and activate the contracts,

This is what I said back in April 2009 when I wrote:

Evidently I’m not completely crazy.  My research uncovered this lost news story from back in February which reported that Baxter International “unintentionally” contaminated vaccine samples with Bird Flu virus.  The contaminated vaccines were sent to subcontractors in several European countries.  ”Coincidentally,” Baxter International began working with the World Health Organization to develop a vaccine against the Swine Flu in April.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization and the CDC in the US continue to push for universal vaccination, and the CDC is insisting that one out of five Americans has contracted the swine flu.  But as this sensible report reveals, the CDC’s accounting model is flawed.

I’m glad to see this information coming out in the mainstream press!

The Saturn/Pluto square approacheth

The square from Saturn to Pluto is one of the more challenging planetary dynamics due to the bad rep both planets have for being the Lord of Karma (Saturn) and the Lord of Death (Pluto).  Saturn used to be the Lord of Death until Pluto came along, so you can see that these are not the most warm and fuzzy planets to encounter, especially when they are in the challenging square, or 90 degree, aspect to each other.  You may want to read my earlier article for more information on this planetary dynamic.

The first phase of the current Saturn/Pluto cycle occurred back in mid-November with relatively benign effect, considering the fact that the opening square of the cycle in 1993 coincided with the Oklahoma City bombing, and the opposition cycle in 2001 brought us September 11.  But this second phase which culminates on January 31st has been rather more severe, with a devastating earthquake in Haiti that occurred when Saturn and Pluto were less than one degree from their exact square followed by a second earthquake of 5.9 magnitude on January 20th as the square from Saturn to Pluto tightened to a half degree.  More on the Haiti earthquake here and here.

Earthquakes and earth changes have long been expected during Pluto’s passage through Capricorn, the sign the governs the structure and foundation upon which we build our world, especially when Uranus, planet of breaking up the status quo, begins to challenge Pluto in a square.  But the earthquake in Haiti has done more than create devastation; it has forced us as a global people to examine the roots of poverty and political oppression that have turned Haiti into such a tragic nation.

Saturn and Pluto aren’t vengeful gods like Jehovah – they just have a job to do.  Anywhere our lives are rooted in illusion, Saturn will come in and force us to wake up.  When something in our lives, or in the world around us, is dying or already dead, Pluto will instigate the destructive force to complete the process.  These two planets together force us, both individually and globally, to face the unpleasant and the horrific, so that transformation and reconstruction can be completed.

With Pluto in Capricorn, the sign that is ruled by Saturn, the force to tear down and rebuild is extremely powerful.  Pluto is the destroyer, but also the phoenix which rises from the ashes. Saturn and Capricorn are all about building solid structures that will not give way in a hurricane.

Avatar Blues

I haven’t yet seen the film Avatar so I can’t comment personally, but evidently some fans are reacting with depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film:

James Cameron’s completely immersive spectacle “Avatar” may have been a little too real for some fans who say they have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film because they long to enjoy the beauty of the alien world Pandora.

On the fan forum site “Avatar Forums,” a topic thread entitled “Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible,” has received more than 1,000 posts from people experiencing depression and fans trying to help them cope. The topic became so popular last month that forum administrator Philippe Baghdassarian had to create a second thread so people could continue to post their confused feelings about the movie.

“I wasn’t depressed myself. In fact the movie made me happy ,” Baghdassarian said. “But I can understand why it made people depressed. The movie was so beautiful and it showed something we don’t have here on Earth. I think people saw we could be living in a completely different world and that caused them to be depressed.” …

“Ever since I went to see ‘Avatar’ I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na’vi made me want to be one of them. I can’t stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it,” Mike posted. “I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in ‘Avatar.’ “

So is it the film Avatar that is causing this depression and despair at the comparison between the idealized Avatar world and our own dysfunctional planet?  Or is it the intense planetary cycles that are occurring right now that are creating these moods and experiences, resulting in a longing for an experience of something more liberating and magical?

As I wrote last October, the conjunction of Chiron (wounding and healing) to Neptune (yearning for spiritual connection) in the sign of Aquarius (idealism and a desire for social justice and revolution) has been inspiring deep experiences of old grief to erupt into our conscious mind where they can be resolved and released.  Chiron and Neptune are nearing their exact conjunction for the first time since last summer.  With Chiron in Aquarius, the experience of wounding that Chiron reveals has its origin in the disappointment of our ideals and our yearnings for the perfect world – the Age of Aquarius of myth and legend.  The addition of Neptune adds a layer of delusion and magic as well as a powerful awareness of where we are disconnected from our souls.

We also have the second phase of the square of Saturn (depression and isolation) to Pluto (death and transformation) to contend with now, and the combination of these two planetary combinations can be quite intense, whether you see the film Avatar or not.

One poster in an Avatar forum wrote this:  ”When I woke up this morning after watching Avatar for the first time yesterday, the world seemed … gray. It was like my whole life, everything I’ve done and worked for, lost its meaning,” Hill wrote on the forum. “It just seems so … meaningless. I still don’t really see any reason to keep … doing things at all. I live in a dying world.”  This quote is so Saturn/Pluto – the world has lost its meaning and we are challenged to keep going and to find new meaning in our lives.

The purpose of these planetary cycles is not to make us miserable but to cause us to go deeper.  Life may have lost its meaning for us, but that’s because we are being urged to seek beyond the superficial; beyond the mundane and ordinary.  We don’t need to go to Pandora for this experience – the magic lies within.
