The astrology of Julian Assange: we have a birth date!

Updated 12/2/10  with more chart details. As you may know, on Tuesday the Wikileaks website released hundreds of cablegrams from diplomats in a variety of countries around the world.  The feedback against Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, has of course been profound.  In fact, Interpol has just issued a “wanted notice” for Assange for an investigation into his “sex crimes.”  This makes a date of birth available for Assange, something we have been craving since he burst onto the scene.

Assange told Forbes that his next target is Big Business.  In any case, Assange isvirtually single-handedly acting out the planetary drama of Pluto (destruction and revelation of secrets) in Capricorn (governments and Big Business) about to be set off by a square from Uranus (radical revolutionary behavior) in Aries (individual rights).  In fact, right now Uranus is at a virtual standstill and is acting most powerfully, which has stimulated the revolutionary fervor of the Wikileaks action.

Julian Assange astrologyJulian Assange (born July 3, 1971 according to the Interpol documents, time unknown, Townsville Australia) has the Sun in Cancer, with a nearly exact square from the Sun to Uranus which explains his radical tendencies.  People with the Sun in Cancer or with Cancer strong in their charts are extremely sensitive to the needs of others, and as a rule feel the pain in the world far more than the average person.

You can read a quasi-biography of him here in my earlier post; very little is known about his early life but he was used as a model for a work of fiction which reveals some clues.

Chiron is also square to Assange’s Sun, and opposite Uranus – a challenging T-square that necessitates the balancing of a wounded sense of Self (Chiron/Sun) with a tendency towards radical actions (Uranus/Sun).  Mars is in Aquarius, the sign of social justice, and it is locked in a challenging square to Jupiter which suggests an aggrandized drive to instill fairness and equality, whatever the cost.  The troublemaking planet Eris is also locked into this T-square, and while I am not yet using Eris in charts that much she certainly seems to be an important player here.  Briefly, Eris is the new planet that was reclassified along with Pluto and Ceres, and in mythology she was the sister of Aries, god of war, and as goddess of strife and discord, the instigator of the Trojan War.  I like to think of her as describing small events that lead to major cycles of transformation. (Read more about Eris here.)

This chart for Assange also has a Plutonian component with a Scorpio Moon (Scorpio is ruled by Pluto) and with Pluto is in a challenging square to Venus, challenging his relationships and creating difficulty for him in making alliances.  A Plutonian chart tends to live more powerfully and with a greater tendency towards drama and intensity than another chart would.

That Venus is interesting, being in the dual sign of Gemini which makes the square to Pluto that much more problematic.  In this planetary system (Venus/Pluto), Pluto demands that relationships be intense and drive us deep beneath the surface, yet Gemini fears the entrapment of this kind of depth, preferring to be more available to a wide variety of experiences.  Assange has some classic characteristics of the commitment-phobe with a hunger for radically new and diverse experiences (Uranus/Gemini) and the dark and brooding intensity and demand for passion that Pluto and Scorpio engender.

Transiting Saturn has been setting off the T-square system in his chart involving his Sun, Uranus and Chiron over the past couple of months, coinciding with the threat of prosecution over two alleged rapes.  (These charges are widely considered to be trumped-up as a means to get some kind of control over Assange: see this article for one viewpoint.)  A transit of Uranus in opposition to Pluto in his chart is also stirring up the collective rage but also his own passion and transformative force.  And as Chiron points out in the comments, his progressed Mars is conjunct his natal North Node this year, driving him closer to his ultimate destiny.

Wikileaks has been around for a few years but burst into the scene when Jupiter and Uranus entered the individualistic sign of Aries.  For some Assange is a hero, because he is exposing the hypocrisy of governments and business.  For some he is a terrorist, because he operates outside of the boundaries of society and law.  No matter what you think of him, there’s no doubt that he is becoming a major player, and emblematic of the upcoming Uranus/Pluto square over the next few years.

Skywatch for December is posted

I’m a day early this month!  I’ll be sending out my monthly newsletter with a simplified summary that is easier to understand, so if you’re not on my mailing list please sign up in the sidebar.  Meanwhile, here’s a hint of what is to come (and for more information about that big eclipse on the Solstice, read through the original article):

Skywatch for December
December begins with the Sun and Mars in Sagittarius, the sign that inspires us to reach beyond the limits of our day-to-day lives.  The only planet in retrograde motion right now is Uranus – the planetary rebel that seeks liberation from restriction.  Uranus will be turning direct (forward) on December 5th, and is at a standstill right now in preparation for its change of direction so its influence is at its peak, inspiring radical behavior and disruption in the natural flow of events.

Chiron and Neptune are still within a degree of each other in a conjunction that has been one of the prevalent planetary forces for the past two years.  Chiron and Neptune are the two great soul teachers, and under their auspices we have been forced to find the deeper truth that lies within rather than live a life of superficial comfort.  These two planets will begin to separate now and the emotional intensity of the past couple of years will begin to subside.

Venus has just entered Scorpio and Mercury has just moved into Capricorn, so we are deepening the reach of our relationships (Venus) and are developing a more pragmatic approach to the way we lay out the details of our lives (Mercury). In fact, Mercury is sextile Venus on the 1st, enhancing our appreciation of beauty and making it easier for us to communicate (Mercury) the secrets (Scorpio) that lie in our hearts (Venus).  This ease continues into the next day with a pleasant sextile from Mercury to Neptune, amplifying our creativity and helping us to tune more easily into the world around us.

However, during the first few days of the month we may feel an underlying tension as Mars moves into position to make a challenging square to Uranus.  Freedom and liberation are the keywords for these first few days, especially on the 3rd when this aspect culminates.  However, on the 3rd a sextile from Mars to Chiron motivates us to seek healing for our wounds which will help to mitigate the stress of the Mars/Uranus combination.  Prepare to feel distracted and perhaps irritable or angry if crossed.  Mars aspects lend themselves to carelessness and accidents for a few days.

Leslie Nielsen has died at 84

Leslie Nielsen astrologyLeslie Nielsen, whose 60-year career saw his transformation from serious stage actor to hilarious funnyman in films like “Airplane” and the “Naked Gun” and “Police Squad” series, died peacefully in his sleep yesterday after a bout with pneumonia.  He was 84.

84 corresponds to the number of years Uranus takes to travel around the Sun, and if weLeslie Nielsen astrology live to be 84 we will experience the Uranus Return, the time when Uranus returns to its place in the birthchart.  Personal Uranus cycles occur every 21 years (ages 21, 42, 63 and 84) and because Uranus is the planet that inspires radical change and a revolutionary departure from the past these cycles are often marked by a significant event in our lives that changes us forever.

Mr. Nielsen’s Uranus return is actually over – he went through it last year and earlier this year.  But Jupiter, which has been traveling in close tandem with Uranus, was in an exact conjunction with Uranus in his chart on the day that he died.  Jupiter represents liberation and the freedom to begin a new adventure, and Jupiter alignments are often found at the time of death.

Even more significantly, though, is the transit of the Pluto/North Node conjunction over the ascendant of Mr. Nielsen’s chart at the time of death.  (Data from Astrodatabank.)  The ascendant describes the persona and the way in which we approach the world, but it also signifies the moment of birth.  And in Mr. Nielsen’s case, the moment of death and returning to the Source from which he came.

Please enjoy this wonderful series of film clips from Leslie Nielsen’s phenomenal career.

The North Node/Pluto conjunction November 2010

The North and South Nodes of the  Moon are important parts of the astrological chart, but they are not planets.  Rather, they are points in the sky that mark the passage of the Moon across the path of the Sun.  I like to think of them as signposts in the sky that point us in the right direction so that we can accomplish our evolutionary journey.  The South Node is associated with the past – things and emotions which give us comfort but also hold us back.  The North Node is associated with our destiny and helps us to align with our future self.  On November 27th Pluto conjoined the North Node for the first time since 1994

Geeky astrological detail – some astrologers use the “True Node,” the exact position of the Nodes, and some use the “Mean Node,” the average position of the Nodes which tend to vacillate forward and reverse rather erratically.  In my work I have found the Mean Node to be more accurate but as in anything else, astrologers will differ which is why you may find differing dates for this conjunction.

Transits involving the nodes of the Moon do not usually set off major events the way planetary transits do, but they do tend to signify a change in course that alters the path of our journey.

The last few times Pluto conjoined the North Node occurred in 1961 (in Virgo), in 1977 (in Libra), and in 1994 (in Scorpio).  1961 marked the beginning of the turbulent 1960s (which were helped along by the conjunction of Uranus and Pluto from 1962-1968).  The years after the 1977 conjunction saw the fall of Iran and the rise of religious dogmatism around the world which necessitated realignments of international alliances (with Pluto and the North Node in Libra).  In 1994, with Pluto and the North Node both in Pluto’s own sign of Scorpio, the genocide in Rwanda killed nearly a million people, and the bombings in Oklahoma City and at the Atlanta Olympics were  the first major terrorist attacks on American soil.

Pluto isn’t always the friendliest planet, and in fact is associated with death and destruction as well as the principle of rebirth.  Its job is to bring into the open the  hidden facets of our lives that need to be exposed and either destroyed or transformed.  When Pluto conjoins the North Node, Pluto’s job becomes the facilitation of our evolution.

Because nodal cycles don’t usually bring a big event that happens at the exact time of the cycle, it will be some time before the effect of this conjunction is known.  If you are currently in the middle of a transit of Pluto to your own chart, this will be a particularly significant time and you may want to pay close attention to the day-to-day events in your life.

Because the North Node is opposite the South Node, when Pluto conjoins the North it opposes the South which serves to bring up things from the past that are unresolved.  This is no time to shrink from confrontation, because Pluto will not rest until matters of consequence are dealt with!

Evolutionary implications of the holographic universe

Holographic Universe

image from Mondolithic Studios

Modern science is turning our notion of what constitutes the Universe on its ear, and nowhere is this more evident than the theory that the Universe itself is a hologram.  Beginning with quantum physics and particle/wave theory, which suggested in the early part of the 20th century that the Universe is operating on many different levels than our three-dimensional reality would suggest.  One of its early proponents, Niehls Bohr, wrote: “Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it”.

I make no pretense of understanding quantum theory, but I know that somehow it explains the nature of the multidimensional physical reality that mystics have talked about for thousands of years. David Bohm’s theory of the Implicate Order suggests that everything is connected with everything else – the principle that underlies all of holistic spirituality. Since everything in our Universe is made up of energy, and the movement of energy enfolds the entire Universe of space and time, this “enfoldment” may continue endlessly into infinite dimensionality.

It is psychedelicized thoughts like this that used to send me into a tailspin of terror!  But this concept of an endless flow of connectivity between dimensions is something that has been in the forefront of mystical thought since the beginning of time.  The very basis of astrological thought, the adage “as above, so below” is a holographic concept.  From the Upanishads, written in the second millenium bce:

As great as the infinite space beyond is the space within the lotus of the heart. Both heaven and earth are contained in that inner space, both fire and air, sun and moon, lightning and stars. Whether we know it in this world or know it not, everything is contained in that inner space. (Chandogya, 191)

(Source)  This wonderful article connecting mystical wisdom to modern holographic concepts elaborates:

A mystical account of holography suggests missing links between the practical methods used to create holographs and the hidden nature of the Self.  Modern holographers have a paradigm but no coherent light to illuminate it – no point source of light to project the experiences of our lives.  Recall Dr. Pribram stating that his theory was not meant to imply that there are any “laser beams in the brain,.   Instead, Pribram considers that the neurological circuitry of the brain acts as a referent beam within the holographic brain.

In contrast, occult or mystical perspectives suggest that there is a zero-point foundation of pure coherent supernal light which is enthroned within the Heart of a human being.  This quantum of consciousness, the spiritual or divine spark, provides the point of coherent light which illuminates the varied activities of the mind, brain and body.  This point source of “supernal light” originates from a realm of “unified light” within the divine realm of being.  Further, the mystical Heart Centre of a human being establishes a deep relationship to the Sun, the Heart of the Solar System, and to the Heart of all Being.

The self-luminous Self establishes the referent beam for the projection of the dimensions of our lives – our physical lives, and  the afterlife existence.   A mystical holography suggests that the holographs of our lives do not simply occur within the head, but are seated on the foundation of the zero-point laya centre of the Heart.  Four dimensional space-time is itself somehow “squeezed out” of this supernal point. The Heart is enlivened and illuminated by the pure coherent light energies of the Self and the Spiritual Intelligences which inform material creation from within/without.

Mystical views provide a most productive orientation towards elaborating the holographic mechanism of the Self.  Unfortunately, the holographers in modern psychology have forgotten the spiritual or divine element, the God spark, the quantum of consciousness, the zero point source of coherent light emerging from within the metaphysical dimension of the heart.  This is such a point of light which could  implicate the whole and allow for the synthesis of psychological views with physical/metaphysical theories.

read more here…

As our mental brain expands to encompass these new paradigm-shattering ideas, our heart and soul can expand simultaneously to achieve greater understanding of the true nature of metaphysical reality.  When we approach the astrological symbolism from this expanded viewpoint we are no longer limited by “malefic” planets and fear of “bad” transits.  Everything that occurs in our lives belongs to the greater evolution of the soul, and life becomes a series of holographic cycles rather than a continuum that leads us from past to future along a straight line of predestined events.

“The stars align to ruin Christmas”

It evidently takes bad astrology news to make the mainstream blogosphere.  The Daily Beast has posted an article that predicts “holiday hell”:

The stars are aligning to ruin Christmas. Astrologers say that for the first time in years, the tumultuous astrological cycle known as Mercury Retrograde falls during the holidays, causing “tears,” “confusion,” and “throwdowns” during the busy shopping and travel season.

This article is largely based on an interview with Susan Miller, who is one of the best known astrologers in the US today and was one of the earlier pioneers of internet astrology with her Astrology Zone on America Online back in the early 1990s.  But in this article she seems to have lost her mind.

It starts with Black Friday and Saturday, which they say will be doomed by bad deals and under-stocked merchandise. And shoppers who wait until after December 9 will get stuck with faulty products or presents that no one wanted in the first place. By mid-December, holiday travelers will be hit with bad weather, mechanical errors and possibly, terrorist threats. Wars may break out, marriages will dissolve, people will lose their jobs and, as astrologer Gahl Sasson put it, “the whole planet is going to have Tourette’s syndrome.” But that’s not even the worst of it. The darkest day comes on the Winter Solstice (December 21), when a full moon eclipse will wreak its own special havoc.

“It’s a nightmare,” says New York astrologerSusan Miller. “People will be in tears.”

I’m in tears already thinking about the effect on humans across the planet whose fear in reading these words will inspire ridiculous behavior that is apt to make this prediction bear fruit.

Mercury turns retrograde for three weeks four times a year, every year.  Often these periods create snafus, but not universally and not as dire as this article suggests.

It’s true that the week around the Solstice eclipse does have its challenges, and with Mercury (short trips, communication) in a challenging square to both Uranus and Jupiter there is a heightened risk of traffic accidents and communication glitches.  The lunar eclipse on the Solstice is a potent one since it tightly conjoins the North Node and Pluto at the 29th degree of Gemini.  I’ll be writing more about this eclipse as we get closer to the event, because this will be a significant time of completion and resolution for many of us.

Yes, it could be intense with that Pluto/North node conjunction to the eclipse.  Yes, Mercury will be retrograde and our attention is turned backwards.  Wars are already breaking out, without the assistance of Pluto or Mercury and we have certainly had our share of planetary bad news this year.

My advice heading into the holiday season is to try to be as conscious as possible, and if you must travel over the holidays expect the usual glitches of Mercury retrograde. No matter who you are with around the Solstice, any hidden conflicts will certainly emerge under this lunar eclipse, so just expect them and learn from their resolution. Astrology is best used as a tool to work through challenging situations, NOT to create more fear in our lives.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my readers!

Thanksgiving astrologyThanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday – perhaps due to the combination of the Sun in Cancer with the Sagittarius ascendant in the US chart.  The Cancerian Sun is focused on food and the nurturing of the People, and because the US Sun falls in the Seventh House of partnerships there is a sense of sharing that nurturing with others with whom we are allied.  The Sag ascendant is bountiful and optimistic that in sharing a big (Sagittarian) feast (Cancer) it will open the door to more abundance in years to come.

One of my readers reminds me that the US is not the only country in the world to set aside a day for Thanksgiving but it is one of only four nations to do so.   The power of gratitude is widely recognized as both a balm for healing and a tool for expanding the abundance in our lives.

Today we have an interesting astrological correlation for the Thanksgiving holiday in that the Sun is in Sagittarius and the Moon is in Cancer, repeating but in reverse the solilunar aspects in the US chart.

We all know that the fairy tale of the original Thanksgiving in which the settlers and the native American people share a meal together loses its meaning when we think of the horrors that followed for several hundred years, but the essence of the holiday goes, I think, beyond a celebration of that myth of turkey and potatoes.  On this day there is a focus throughout the nation on the things that we are thankful for, and that is something that we all benefit from.

So on this day I invite all of my readers, no matter what country you hail from or live in, to open your hearts to the things in life for which you are most grateful.  For me I can list these as just a few of the things I am thankful for:

  • A growing network of family and good friends who are healing old rifts and coming together in love and acceptance.
  • The greater network of friends and connections among people I have not yet met in person but with whom I share inspiration and love every day across the internet.
  • The fact that despite many failed attempts I never gave up and did eventually find true love.
  • The warmth and comfort and devotion of small furry creatures.
  • A world that despite its fears and tragedies still is a beautiful place in which to spend a lifetime, no matter how short or how long that lifetime lasts.

The astrology of North Korea (updated)

This article was originally posted in 2009 but has been updated to account for recent events.

astrology of north koreaBefore you can have an accurate astrological profile, you must have an accurate date of birth.  In a mundane chart of a nation this gets a little tricky.  What is the moment of birth?  Is it the moment that the nation is announced?  Is it when the constitution is signed?  Ratified?  New leaders elected?

In my online research today I found several different dates used by astrologers for North Korea.  There is a chart for August 10, 1945, the date that the US War Department decided to partition the country at the 38th parallel.  There is a chart for September 10, 1948 which appears to have come originally from Nick Campion’s Book of World Horoscopes and is incorrect.

In my view, using the August 1945 date for North Korea is a bit like using the time of conception for a birthchart.  Information from the US State Department and several Korean websites confirm that the actual birthing of the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea (DPRK) was proclaimed by Kim Il Sung on September 9, 1948, and this is the day that is celebrated by the North Korean people as the founding anniversary.

Chiron in the comments section suggested that we must also look at the revision of the North Korean constitution, but additional research reveals that the constitution has been revised many times including in 1992 and 1998.  Because the government did not change, I’m inclined to disregard these charts.

I have not been able to find a suitable time for the North Korea chart so I will use noon as Robert Blaschke does in his excellent article for The Mountain Astrologer.

The Sun in the North Korea chart is in Virgo where it is in the final stage of a transit of Saturn.   Virgo has many positive attributes, but one of its negative qualities is a tendency towards miserliness and even deprivation and we have certainly seen this negative side with the starvation that occurs in that country. Virgo is an industrious sign that emphasizes humility and service rather than excellence and personal achievement, and this is certainly reflected in the fact that the North Korean government is run by the Korean Workers Party.

The Sun here is squared by Jupiter which can reveal a tendency towards arrogance and self-righteousness.  Jupiter is particularly powerful here in its own sign of Sagittarius and while we like to think of Jupiter in its role as “The Greater Benefic” it can denote a fanatical and dogmatic philosophy of government.  I like to say that Jupiter shows where we want to be god (Jupiter of course was King of the gods on Mt. Olympus), and with a powerful Jupiter in a challenging square to the Sun one’s self-aggrandizement can take dangerous proportions.

The Moon, showing where the heart of the people lies, is also in Sagittarius which reflects the need of the people to believe the best and retain an optimistic viewpoint.  The Moon is in a harmonious trine to Venus which in a mundane chart rules entertainment and the arts, and Sagittarius is associated with entertainment as well.  There is no doubt that the North Korean people are energized by artistic performances which are all controlled by the State.  The North Korean stadium that houses the enormously popular Mass Games holds 150,000 people and is reportedly the largest of its kind in the world.

Several days ago North Korea, reacting to South Korean military drills near the North Korean coast, began shelling a small island in South Korean territory killing two civilians and setting off a firestorm of international condemnation.  Friday’s New Moon, at 29 degrees Taurus, was within one degree of Uranus in the North Korean chart – the planet that inspires revolutionary behavior and disruption.

For more information on the planetary aspects during 2008 and 2009 that marked the escalation of tensions, please see the latter section of my original post here.

Uranus in the North Korean chart is at zero degrees Cancer, and the planets in the Cardinal Drama have been stimulating the desire for change within the country as reflected by the planetary significance of Uranus.  When Jupiter and Uranus formed a square to Uranus in the national chart the sinking of a South Korean naval vessel heightened tensions between the two nations; shortly thereafter in June, as the Cardinal Drama reached its peak, there was a reshuffle of leadership in the top positions.

When Jupiter and Uranus return to the zero degree Aries point in early spring of 2011, this point in the North Korean chart will be stimulated again and it will be very interesting to see what happens.  While it is rumored that Kim Jong Il’s son is preparing to take control of the helm, sources say that the father ordered the attack and is still very much in charge.  You may also be interested in the astrological profile of Kim Jong Il.

The astrology of the Tony Parker/Eva Longoria split

longoria-parker.jpgJust one day after both parties denied split rumors last week, actress Eva Longoria has filed for divorce from basketball star Tony Parker after three years of marriage.  Ms. Longoria found hundreds of text messages on her husband’s phone from the wife of another NBA player.

The Longoria/Parker relationship is a great example of how unhelpful Sun Sign compatibility is when it is considered as the most important factor in a relationship.  Longoria’s Pisces Sun is in a nearly exact sextile, an extremely harmonious aspect, to Parker’s Taurus Sun, suggesting a high degree of compatibility between them.  But people are complex, and these two are no exception.

In Eva Longoria’s astrological chart her Pisces Sun conjoins Jupiter, the traditional ruler of Pisces and the planet of good fortune and optimism.  She definitely has a sensitive side, but she has a strong and forceful personality with her Aries (the warrior) Moon and Venus and Mars, planet of aggression, in a challenging aspect to Uranus, planet of radical behavior.  Her chart shows that she is very like the fiery character she plays on the Desperate Housewives program – a powerhouse of energy with a sweet and sensitive side.

Tony Parker’s chart is also sensitive with his Moon in the dreamy and empathic sign of Pisces, but he lacks the fire that Longoria’s chart reveals.  His Mars is in Libra, demonstrating a drive (Mars) to please others and find harmony in relationships (Libra), and while his Venus is in that fiery sign Aries, suggesting that in his relationships (Venus) he needs to be the one in charge (Aries), Saturn opposes Venus which can create a great deal of self-doubt and hesitation.  I suspect that over the course of their relationship he became overwhelmed by her assertive personality and his own insecurities took control.

Both of them are wounded people as indicated by the tight aspects of Chiron, the wounded healer, in their charts.  Longoria has Chiron conjunct her Moon and Venus, which reveals a wound (Chiron) to her sense of beauty (Venus) and security (Moon).  Longoria has openly discussed her background of poverty and the fact that in her family she was considered the ugly one, and called the “ugly duckling.”

Parker’s Chiron conjoins his Sun, affecting his self-image and ability to know who he is.  Over the past couple of years transiting Chiron in the sky has been moving back and forth over a challenging square to Chiron in his own chart, and Chiron is virtually stationary right now in a square to his natal Sun, an aspect which is in effect from October to December of 2010.  All of his inner insecurities have likely been coming to the surface during this period. (Please note that astrological explanations do not excuse bad behavior; but it is helpful to understand the motivating factors behind the actions of individuals.)

There are some difficult interaspects between their charts that create challenges between them, most notably the opposition of Pluto in Parker’s chart to the sensitive Moon/Venus/Chiron combination in Longoria’s chart.  Pluto is a powerhouse of intensity and often suggests danger and the death of something, and this is a challenging dynamic in the chart of any two people.  It also appeared that it may have been difficult for them to really get to know each other, since the Neptune (confusion/illusion) of each of them is in a challenging square to the Sun (self) of the other.

Many of my clients who have been married for long periods of time have challenging dynamics like this in their chart, but it does require a great deal of commitment and work to manage these relationships.  Parker has not yet gone through his Saturn Return, the period of our lives at age 28-30 when we really begin to grow up and mature.

The return of General Motors: The beginning of a new era

General MotorsI don’t know about you, but all of a sudden I want to buy a new car.  I’ve been looking online, in magazines, in the newspapers – thrilled at the prospect of something shiny and new in the driveway.  This is particularly curious because I have a car that I LOVE – it’s a cool shade of green, nice and luxurious, and it goes great with all of my clothes.

I was telling Rich I couldn’t figure out why all of a sudden I wanted a new car, and then I noticed that every five minutes there is a new car ad on television.  Yes, I AM that susceptible to marketing!

Today marks the return of General Motors to the trading floor of the New York stock exchange.  The conservative press is minimizing the importance of the initial public offering today by General Motors which is selling stock in the company for the first time since it went bankrupt in 2008 as Pluto moved into Capricorn, but so far over $20 billion in stock shares have been sold, bringing the US Treasury’s share of GM stock down to 33% from over 60%.

With Venus and Jupiter both changing direction today and tomorrow, be prepared for reversals of fortune in financial markets.  It’s difficult to predict whether GM’s success will lead to lasting optimism in the markets, but stocks are way up today over the excitement of the return of General Motors.  This euphoria may be induced by today’s challenging square between the Sun and Neptune, which has a tendency to bring out our most fervent fantasies.

I have been predicting that once the “Cardinal Drama” of planetary alignments was behind us, which it is at this time, the general economy would begin to improve.  This may not be true for everyone at once, and Pluto (destruction and rebuilding) will be in Capricorn (governmental and financial structures) for a long time.  It will be quite a while before the dust of the economic collapse of the past two years will settle.  In the meantime, before you go out and buy a car remember the danger of debt, and try not to be sucked in by clever advertising schemes!
