On vacation

I’m leaving today for a long anticipated trip to England!  We’ll be in London and then traveling through the magical area of Glastonbury and then Cornwall. I’ll be meeting my longtime astro friends Kathryn Cassidy and Dharmaruci, which is very exciting!  I’ve pre-posted some new articles and some reposts for you to read while I’m gone, and I’ll also be posting from the road.  Sorry, I won’t be participating in the comments until I return.

2 million views!

Yesterday this blog reached a landmark:  two million page views since 2005.  I want to thank all of my readers, especially the ones who have stuck with me year after year, through interesting times and not-so-interesting times, for the inspiration to keep coming up with articles that are worth reading.

While I’m thanking people, I want to thank my sister Jill who was the first blogger I ever knew and helped me set up the initial Blogger format, and Jeff who was the first astroblogger that linked to me.  Jeff recently helped me with the change to my blog format and provided hours of relentless support.  And of course Elsa, who may have been the first astrology blogger ever and who used her growing success to encourage and support the rest of us who came later.

Finally, I’d like to thank Beliefnet for the exposure offered by its hosting of this blog, and for granting me ownership of the contents and the freedom to do with it what I wish.

I remain committed to providing you with the highest quality astrological reporting, and always welcome your comments!

April Fool’s Day!

April Fools DayFool card from the Dragon Tarot deck.

Reposted from 2006: Today  we celebrate the Fool, which is particularly appropriate in light of the Aries New Moon next week.

The ancient system of Tarot is the precursor to our modern deck of playing cards, and is thought by some to have been the carrier of secret mystical knowledge during the times of the inquisition. The Fool reminds us that we have limited perspective as we walk through our life, and that we carry with us little but trust that life will take care of us on our adventure. Every morning when we wake up, we trust that we will meet the same world we left the night before. We trust that the Sun will bring day and the Moon night. We have little control over our destiny other than the choices we make from day to day, and in that we are very like the innocent Fool of the Tarot.
The Fool is the zero card – the point of beginning and hence its association with Aries, the first sign in the zodiac. According to the research of Dr. Robert O’Neill, 15th century morality plays, “the Fool appears as a character called “Nought” who is subject to derision because he plays no attention to [conventional] morality.” In Shakespeare’s plays it is only the Fool who has the courage to reveal the truth through riddles and games, thereby showing the most profound wisdom.

The Fool is a shamanic character as well. While medieval playwrights cast the Fool in the role of the mentally disturbed, indigenous traditions all over the world respect those who see visions and hear voices as shamans rather than cast them aside as mental cases. The Fool as the Zero point is the perfect circle which has no beginning and no end. It is the perfect archetype for our journey on Planet Earth.

This year let’s celebrate April Fools day with more than practical jokes and goofs. Let’s follow the example of Aries, who lives by instinct. Let’s remember that part of ourselves that is wise enough to see through the blinders of our social conditioning, and yet open enough to trust our instincts and our internal barometers as we walk courageously through the journey that is our lives. ——–

Blog roundup!

I’m preparing for a class tonight so I thought I’d post some interesting links for you today:

Sasstrology covers the Jennifer Aniston/Gerard Butler romance, something I’ve been meaning to do myself but haven’t.

Elsa beats her cookie addiction.

Robert demystifies the house cusp question (for more advanced readers).

Dharmaruci returns to the site of the sweat lodge madness.

Frederick Woodruff dissects the Hanged Man (this card came up in nearly every reading I did Saturday night at a Mardi Gras party – can you say Saturn/Pluto?)

Julie explores the meaning of Jupiter in Pisces.

Enjoy!  I’ll be back tomorrow with more interesting astrological news.

Astrological Take on the Year’s Craziest Political Stories

I’m working feverishly to write the January Skywatch and to finish my forecast article on the Astrology of 2010, so rather than write a fresh post for you today I will post a link to this fascinating look by Patrick Watson of the political events of the past year and their astrological significations.  The White House party crashers, the significance of Joe “You Lie” Wilson, the Healthcare town hall protests, the election protests in Iran, and the Obama “Birther” controversy – all are detailed here with full-color astrological charts.
Enjoy!  And if you’d like to sign up to receive the Skywatch article tomorrow and the 2010 article over the next few days, just visit my website and fill out the form (it’s free!)..

The return of the Astrological Musings Community!

The bugs and kinks have been worked out of the Community, and I’ve got a nice little box on the blog to help people to access it.

Thanks for your patience to those of you who are members, and if you’re not, this is a good way to continue some of our discussions. If you have questions about astrology or about your chart we can talk about it here, and in the past some of the members have posted their charts so that the group can discuss it.
I’m going to start some interesting topics, so I hope to see you there!

Astrological Musings Radio: Sunday Morning 11am EST

Tune in Sunday morning at 11 am Eastern when we’ll be talking about Uranus and Mars.  Mars is the planet that governs our drive and desires, and it will be turning retrograde soon, demanding our attention and energizing us for change.  Uranus, planet of revolution and change, turns direct on Tuesday and will be re-energized itself.

We’ll be talking about the kinds of experiences we are likely to encounter as Mars travels back and forth through Leo over the next six months or so.

The placement of Mars in the chart is important in assessing various health issues and I’ll be talking some about this as well.

We also have a Full Moon coming up this week so we’ll talk about the energies that this Full Moon will bring.
I’ll be taking your calls (new callers only please!) about halfway through the show, and the call-in number is 646-478-5731.  To listen, use the player in the sidebar or visit the Radio page on my website here.  You can also listen to the show later, download it to your mp3 player, or subscribe to the podcast of the show (details and instructions on my website page).
I’ve scheduled December’s shows:
December 6:  Jupiter and Chiron, revisited.  When the planet of expansion (Jupiter) meets the planet of wounding and healing (Chiron), expect an opportunity for emotional transformation!
December 13: The importance of Uranus (no scatological jokes please!!).  Uranus turns direct this week and we’ll talk about the important role this planet plays in our evolution as individuals.
December 20:  The Christmas Show.   This will be a concept-busting show.  We’ll be talking about Astrotheology and the connections between the Christmas Story and the story of the Winter Solstice Sun, as well as the astronomical Star of Bethlehem.  We’ll also talk briefly about Mercury turning retrograde on the 26th and the Super Moon eclipse on the 31st.  It will be a packed show so I’ve extended it to 90 minutes.

Astrological Musings Radios: Sunday 11am EST

This Sunday the Sun will have just entered the sign of Sagittarius, the sign of opportunity and adventure.  We’ll be discussing the meaning of Sagittarius and how to keep an optimistic viewpoint without stepping over the edge into denial, and where positive thinking and reality can join in transformation.

I’m glad the new time is working out so that more of you can listen live and call in to the show, but we have all been frustrated at how quickly we run out of time.  So I’ve extended the show to 90 minutes to allow more time for your calls.  I can’t promise I’ll get to everyone, and I may have to go back to 60 minutes some weeks.  The call-in number is 646-478-5731.

Here’s the link to learn how to listen live or to the archives.  You can also download the show and subscribe via Itunes.  Please consider leaving a review for the show on Itunes!

Computer Glitch Grounds All FAA Flights

I found it interesting that this occurred right after Mercury (communication) squared the progressed Sun in the US chart at 1:53 am.  The computer glitch occurred between 5:15 am and 5:30 am, and by 9 am flights were being canceled just as the Moon was moving out of Sagittarius (air flight) to Capricorn (grounded on the earth).  Once the Moon moved into Capricorn at 10 am it was conjunct Pluto in Capricorn (transformation) and squared by Saturn (restriction, challenge).
Probably just a coincidence, but interesting nonetheless!!
