Guns, Guns, Guns, in the USA

guns astrologyEverywhere you turn these days the discussion is about guns.

Guns are not a new topic for discussion, but the feverish frenzy over which gun rights advocates are protecting their rights to own assault weapons and other types of weapons meant for mass killings is rather recent.

There is no nation like the United States in terms of gun ownership.  The (Sibly) chart of the United States has Sagittarius rising, which echoes the expansive philosophies that have always drove the country towards constant expansion and religious ideals, both Sagittarian concepts.  We normally would look towards Mars for signs of warfare like behavior, but in the US chart the passion for guns is found in the placement of Pluto in the second house.  This fanatacisim about guns originates not in an aggressive desire to assert force (Mars) but in a hunger for freedom (Sagittarius ascendant) and a relentless (Pluto) drive to accumulate masses of money through manipulation of the nation’s ideals (second house).

American gun lovers don’t want to accumulate stockpiles of weapons to kill their neighbors.  They want these weapons because they believe that it will protect that Sagittarius rising freedom.  It doesn’t hurt that Uranus (planet of liberation from oppression) conjoins both Venus (partners) and Mars (aggression) in the chart.  That Uranus/Mars conjunction especially denotes a radical desire for liberty at all costs.  Americans own twice as many guns as any other country, per capita.

That’s where Pluto in the second house enters the picture, in the form of the National Rifle Association.  The NRA spent $15 million in the 2012 presidential campaign, using a fearmongering campaign promoting the idea that Obama planned to take away gun rights (he wasn’t).  This same organization used the school shooting in Newtown Connecticut to promote the worry that the government was attempting to take away the guns of American citizens (it wasn’t).  Yet the economic effect was significant: as gun sales accelerated after the shooting, with prices for 30-round magazines rising exponentially.

This, my friend, is what happens with Pluto asserts its hunger for power in the second house of money and possessions.  The fear (Pluto) over the loss of liberty (Sag rising and Uranus/Mars) can generate big bucks (second house).  Military style assault rifles have become the new symbol of freedom: the “musket of today” according to the president of the National Rifle Association.

It’s always helpful to follow the money when attempting to understand something about the United States, and it’s no coincidence that much of the funding for the NRA comes from the gun industry.  From Business Insider:

In its early days, the National Rifle Association was a grassroots social club that prided itself on independence from corporate influence.

While that is still part of the organization’s core function, today less than half of the NRA’s revenues come from program fees and membership dues.

The bulk of the group’s money now comes in the form of contributions, grants, royalty income, and advertising, much of it originating from gun industry sources.

Since 2005, the gun industry and its corporate allies have given between $20 million and $52.6 million to it through the NRA Ring of Freedom sponsor program. Donors include firearm companies like Midway USA, Springfield Armory Inc, Pierce Bullet Seal Target Systems, and Beretta USA Corporation. Other supporters from the gun industry include Cabala’s, Sturm Rugar & Co, and Smith & Wesson.

The NRA also made $20.9 million — about 10 percent of its revenue — from selling advertising to industry companies marketing products in its many publications in 2010, according to the IRS Form 990.

Additionally, some companies donate portions of sales directly to the NRA. Crimson Trace, which makes laser sights, donates 10 percent of each sale to the NRA. Taurus buys an NRA membership for everyone who buys one of their guns. Sturm Rugar gives $1 to the NRA for each gun sold, which amounts to millions. The NRA’s revenues are intrinsically linked to the success of the gun business. …

The chief trade association for gun manufacturers is the National Shooting Sports Federation, which is, incidentally, located in Newtown, Conn. But the NRA takes front and center after each and every shooting.

“Today’s NRA is a virtual subsidiary of the gun industry,” said Josh Sugarmann, executive director of the Violence Policy Center. “While the NRA portrays itself as protecting the ‘freedom’ of individual gun owners, it’s actually working to protect the freedom of the gun industry to manufacture and sell virtually any weapon or accessory.”

There are two reasons for the industry support for the NRA. The first is that the organization develops and maintains a market for their products.  The second, less direct function, is to absorb criticism in the event of PR crises for the gun industry.

With Uranus in Aries since March 2011, this excitement over personal liberty has become almost hysterical.  Uranus itself rules rebellion against the status quo and the kind of radical change that destroys outmoded structures, and in Aries, the sign of the pioneer and individualist, that revolutionary fervor has become more intensely personal.  Uranus will remain in Aries until 2019, so it’s unlikely that we will see this story become less significant anytime soon.  On the contrary, as Uranus continues to bump up against Pluto in a challenging square formation over the next couple of years the story is likely to become more significant and likely, more ridiculous.

Personally, I have  a hard time understanding how a culture that is so obsessed with personal liberty where guns are concerned can be so oppressive when it comes to a woman’s personal health or wardrobe.  In my state of North Carolina the state legislature recently introduced three bills in the same session: two to allow guns in restaurants and in schools, and one to prohibit exposure of a woman’s nipples.

If nipple exposure could generate cash, I am certain that someone would find a way to defend it.  In the meantime, wardrobe violators, be warned!  America’s passion for liberty does not extend into your personal life.  It is only intended for corporations and profit.

Neptune in Pisces: “The future of live entertainment is dead”

While Neptune is usually considered a planet of spirituality, it also is the ruler of the experience of the masses.  We usually put “entertainment” in that category, and now that Neptune has slipped into Pisces the nature of reality and entertainment is beginning to have the famous Neptunian blurring effect.  Augmented reality will change the way we view our world, and now holographic performances are making an appearance at rock festivals.

Last weekend at the Coachella festival an apparent holographic image of the beloved rap icon Tupac Shakur gave a featured performance.

http://youtu.be/AksK8BoPB5g

The holographic image wasn’t actual footage of Shakur: “This is not found footage. This is not archival footage. This is an illusion, and this is just the beginning, Ed Ulbrich told WSJ. “Dre has a massive vision for this.”

The last time Neptune was in Pisces, beginning in 1848, print magazines were just beginning to bring news to the masses in a more entertaining form.  Plays and vaudeville act attracted the average citizen into theaters around the world and made entertainment itself more accessible.  Neptune’s travel through Pisces this time will no doubt continue to change the entertainment industry.

Anarchy comes to Carrboro NC

One of the things we have to look forward to with the entry of Uranus into Aries is a new surge of radical and revolutionary freedom fighters (Uranus) who seek power for the individual (Aries).  The word “anarchy” is derived from the Greek word “anarchos” which means “without rulers,” and “anarchy” is usually defined as “a state of lawlessness resulting from a failure of government.”

When Uranus in Aries brings its freedom fighters to conflict with the concentration of power that Pluto in Capricorn attempts to enforce, you can see what might happen and we’re seeing this now in Egypt.  And now the force of anarchy is taking root in Carrboro North Carolina where my office is located.

Carrboro is well known for being one of the most liberal cities in the US.  It was the first municipality in North Carolina to elect an openly gay mayor, and one of the first communities in the country to pass a resolution against the war in Iraq.  But it’s a big step from progressive politics to anarchy:

Pass any papered utility pole from Carrboro to downtown Chapel Hill, and you’ll see traces of their presence: The anarchists are everywhere.”You cannot avoid us. Even if you don’t like us, you know we’re there because our posters are [expletive] everywhere,” said self-proclaimed anarchist and Carrboro resident Neal Richards. …

“Because we want a society where people solve problems collectively on a grassroots, community level, we take action in ways that reflect that desire,” he said.

Anarchists describe it as “Direct Action.”

Read more here… Nothing says “Aries” better than “direct action.”  Aries after all is ruled by Mars, the god of action and aggressive inspiration.  Aries will add a new level of excitement to the already thrilling disruption of Uranus, and it will be fascinating to see what happens next when Uranus and Pluto face off later this year.

The astrology of the sexual revolution: Part 2

Catch up on Part 1 here

astrology beat generationBeginning in 1954 when Tupperware parties began putting money in the pockets of housewives and Playboy Magazine began sowing seeds of dissatisfaction in the lusty hearts of suburban dads, the ground was being fertilized for the sexual revolution that was to come later in the 1960s.  Saturn continued to travel through Scorpio until January of 1956, testing the structures of power and forcing confrontation in areas of sexuality.  It was during this period that sexuality researcher Alfred Kinsey’s funding was cut off due to threats from conservative sources.

Neptune entered Scorpio in late 1956 as Saturn entered Sagittarius.  The entry of Neptune (escapism/spirituality) into Scorpio (sexuality, intensity) corresponds with the very beginnings of the free love and drug culture.  The publishing of Albert Ginsburg’s work Howl is considered to mark the birth of the Beat Generation, a counterculture which was largely concerned with pushing the boundaries of sexuality and drug use, both Neptune in Scorpio matters.  Jack Kerouac’s On the Road was also published at this time, reflecting the growing expansiveness of Saturn’s passage through adventurous Sagittarius and the desire to test the limits of religion and philosophy, Sagittarian influences.  Under the Beats, marijuana use became more widespread resulting in the Narcotics Control Act of 1956.

This mid-1950s period also corresponded to the rise of Rock and Roll as a dominating force in the popular culture, along with the mainstreaming of African-American entertainers and a growing interest in jazz.

During this period Neptune was within range of a square to Uranus (radical change and new ideas).  Although the two never did fully align, the Uranian influence instilled the beginnings of a revolutionary fervor to break out of any rigid boxes of morality which included attitudes towards homosexuality.  Some of the more radical members of the Beat Generation indulged openly in multiple sexual partners, sometimes across gender lines.

When Pluto entered Virgo in 1958 the stirrings of a new sexual freedom subsided somewhat.  Under the influence of Pluto’s journey through the self-centered sign of Leo, hedonism and pleasure became suddenly more important than family and country, the domain of Pluto’s previous domain of Cancer.  In fact it was during the Pluto in Leo period that the era of sexual research began with Masters and Johnson and Alfred Kinsey.  The following year, in 1959, Saturn entered Capricorn and there was a bit of a backlash against the awakening sexuality of young people as the Pluto in Leo (1939-1958) generation came of age and bumped up against the fears of their Pluto in Cancer parents.  1959 marked the year of the Obscene Publications Act in the UK, and fears over nuclear proliferation and the Cold War superseded any revolutionary inklings.

In June of 1960 Searle’s “the Pill” was approved by the FDA for contraceptive use.  (The development of the Pill accelerated when Neptune (drugs) moved into Scorpio (sexuality).  The release of the Pill for mainstream use among women is largely credited not only with the sexual revolution, but with the growth of the Women’s Movement generally.  By the end of 1962 Searle’s monopoly over the contraceptive pill market ended, and the Pill went mainstream just as Uranus conjoined Pluto.

Tomorrow: The exciting conclusion as the sexual revolution achieves its climax under the Uranus/Pluto conjunction.

Just in Time for the Saturn/Pluto Square: The 2012 Movie

If you’ve watched any TV over the past week, chances are you’ve seen the trailer for the new 2012 movie starring John Cusack.  The special effects in this trailer are absolutely incredible, and it appears this will be a really terrifying movie.  It’s a joke in my house that I can’t watch a movie unless it’s rated PG, and I think I’ll have to skip this one until it comes to the small screen in my house where I can fast forward through the scary parts.  Which might be all of it.
For some reasons humans love to scare themselves, and nowhere is this more true than in the doomsday business.  You may remember 1999 when we were sure all of the power grids were going to collapse because of the way digits were recorded in computers.  For thousands of years humans have been predicting the end of the world, and now the famous Mayan calendar will end on December 12, 2012.
Maybe it’s the Saturn that sits right on my Sun, but I tend to be a bit skeptical about many of these things so I was glad to see an article about a Mayan Indian elder who pooh-poohs the idea that the world will end next year.
Saturn will enter Libra at the end of this month and will form a square to Pluto that will closely align in early November, just in time to see this frightening movie about the end of all civilizations on earth which is being released on November 13.  Coincidentally, the exact square from Saturn to Pluto peaks on the 15th.
When the Lord of Karma (Saturn) and and the Lord of Death (Pluto) collide t can shake people up.  The last time they met was between August and November of 2001 and you might remember the events that occurred then.  Certainly there was change and fear ruled the land.  Their previous meeting in 1973 and 1974 was less eventful, but the opening square of Saturn to Pluto in 1982 resulted in widespread economic recession, and the opposition of Saturn to Pluto in 2005 which included Uranus was also quite powerful and created some major changes.
When Uranus enters Aries next year it will begin to align with Saturn and Pluto just as it did in 1965, although the full impact won’t be felt until 2011.

The Astrology of Barbie

No doll has been as well-loved or as despised as the Barbie doll.  Created by Ruth Handler in the 1950s, she was first introduced to the world at the International Toy Fair in New York on March 9, 1959 which is considered Barbie’s official birthday.

I was unable to find the time of day that Barbie was first introduced, but assuming that she was introduced sometime between 10 am and 3 pm her birthchart shows a tight conjunction between the Sun and the Moon, both in Pisces.  Pisces is the sign of the dreamer, the mystic, and the creative imagination and there is no doubt that Barbie captured the imagination of many a young girl in the 1960s, including me.

She also served as the hook upon which to project all of our adolescent fantasies, another key theme of Pisces. MG Lord, author of Barbie’s unauthorized biography, wrote “People project fears and prejudices onto her; when a person talks at length about Barbie, one usually learns more about the speaker than the doll.”  Ruth Handler herself said, “ ”I wanted [little girls] to be able to dream their dreams through Barbie.”  Barbie – the Pisces dreamer and the one who is dreamed. For more on Barbie’s feminist roots see this excellent paper.

Born right after the New Moon (the New Moon that day occurred at 6 am – was there an astrologer in the house?), Barbie is a New Moon personality – fresh, original, optimistic, and ready to begin a brand new life.  Barbie was the first of a series of adult-looking dolls for children that changed forever the way dolls were seen by parents and children all over the world.

Barbie is often criticized by feminists but Barbie was actually one of the first feminists. Her fiercely independent nature is shown by the square of Mars (aggression) to her Sun, and she never settled down in a relationship with Ken or even with any particular career.  Barbie’s Mars is in Gemini which likes to try on a lot of different experiences, and Barbie’s career history is reflective of this.  She began as a fashion model, and quickly advanced to fashion designer. The following year she became a registered nurse, and in 1963 became one of the first female executives.  Then she went back to college and was an astronaut long before the moon landing.  She was a surgeon in 1973 when American women were still arguing their right to work!  She was even in a rock band, Barbie and the Sensations.

In relationships she was a similar free spirit.  She never married Ken, and never had children.  Venus in her chart is in independent Aries (ruled by Mars, which is strong in her chart) and it is in a harmonious trine to Uranus, the planet of revolutionary behavior and change.  She demanded freedom in her relationships and enjoyed a wide circle of friends of all kinds which is what we expect with a Uranus/Venus combination.

Before Barbie, little girls were expected to use their dolls as practice babies for the time when they became mothers.  Barbie opened up our eyes to a whole new world of opportunity for women.  Barbie is about to experience her Chiron Return, the event that occurs when we are about 50-52 and Chiron returns to its place in the birthchart.  This is a time of self-reflection and growing self-awareness, and it occurs at the same time as a transit of Pluto (transformation) to Pluto in her chart.

At the same time, Saturn and Uranus in the sky are activating the New Moon dynamic in Barbie’s chart which will have the effect of creating exciting change for her in a way that increases her popularity and the stability (Saturn) of her brand.  Mattel is hoping for a renaissance of Barbie at her 50th birthday, and it appears that the stars are aligned for this to occur.

“Saturn Returns” Opens Off Broadway

Image shamelessly stolen from Elsa. How perfect, that as Saturn opposes Uranus he gets a whole new audience off-Broadway (of course it’s off-Broadway rather than the more mainstream Broadwayhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif, Uranus is involved!).  A new play by Noah Haidle called Saturn Returns opens tonight.   From the Lincoln Center article: “The planet Saturn’s orbital return to its position at the moment of a person’s birth happens every 30 years,” press notes state. “In Saturn Returns, playwright Noah Haidle uses this phenomenon to take a look at one man – Gustin – during these pivotal moments as he confronts the three women in his life.”

Many people who know nothing about astrologyhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif are still familiar with the concept of the Saturn Return, the time when we turn 28-30 and are forced to leave our childhood behind and embrace the responsibility (Saturn) of adulthood.

I could find no biographical information about playwright Noah Haidle, but it appears that he was 26 in 2005, giving him a birthdate of 1979.

A similar play called Saturn’s Return was written last year by Australian playwright Tommy Murphy who says the idea came at a difficult time in his life when his sister told him Saturn was returning to explain what he was going through.  Murphy said in an interview, “”Whether we chose to believe in astrology or not, it’s an idea or metaphor that I found interesting,” Murphy says. “I was interested in the notion of a more authentic person emerging after this process of upheaval and the consolidation of adulthood. What is that movement of upheaval, that call to responsibility, going to be for this generation, this time around? Who will this more authentic person be?”  Like Haidle, Tommy Murphy was born in 1979.

Haidle’s plot involves not only the Saturn Return at age 30, but all three stages of the Saturn Return to demonstrate how life unfolds in Saturn cycles.  I’m looking forward to finding more information about Haidle and his Saturn experience!

Pluto and dark news for newspaper publishing

Pluto entered Capricorn back in January of 2008, beginning its long trouncing of the governmental and other societal structures that are in the Capricornian domain. But then in April Pluto retrograded back into Sagittarius where it will remain until December, completing its work on our optimism, philosophies, religion, ideologies, interest in foreign nations, globalization, entertainment and publishing – all things Sagittarian.

So this article from Reuters Blogs on the state of American newspapers was an eerie reminder that Pluto is nearly done ravaging through Sag. The article is entitled “Darkness on the Edge of Town: Newspapers 2008,” and what a great title on the power of Pluto, lord of darkness. The article quotes research from the Pew Research Center that concludes:

“Meet the American daily newspaper of 2008. It has fewer pages than three years ago, the paper stock is thinner, and the stories are shorter. There is less foreign and national news, less space devoted to science, the arts, features and a range of specialized subjects. Business coverage is either packaged in an increasingly thin stand-alone section or collapsed into another part of the paper. The crossword puzzle has shrunk, the TV listings and stock tables may have disappeared, but coverage of some local issues has strengthened and investigative reporting remains highly valued.”

The rise of the internet under Pluto in Sag has eviscerated paper publishing and transformed media altogether.

Nuggets from the article that are apropos of Pluto in Sagittarius include these:

Larger papers have closed most of their overseas bureaus. [Sagittarius presides over our interest in foreign lands.]

Cut Iraq if you must, but do NOT mess with my crossword. [Sagittarius is more interested in entertainment than serious journalism.]

The ranks of editors who check stories prior to publication are thinning. [Accuracy is less important to Sagittarius than entertainment value.]

And finally, echosing the Relentless Optimism of Pluto’s travels through Sagittarius that has seen the ballooning of our houses, our cars, and our debt:

Many of the editors express a remarkable — at times almost eerie — optimism despite the adversities they have faced.”

The Astrology of Lost

All of the astrological signs are represented in the TV program Lost. Our astrological makeup is much more complex than just one astrological sign, but just for fun let’s take a look at these fascinating characters. Many of them are wounded souls on a healing journey, so we tend to see the shadow side of the signs but we can also see the direction they are headed in their evolution:

AriesSawyer is our Aries character. Primarily concerned with self-preservation, he is headstrong like the Ram and doesn’t work well in a group. Aries has to be a leader, and if he can’t be a leader he will want to operate alone. Sawyer originally set up his own camp and supplied himself with everything he would need. He is direct and not always tactful, and is not a good liar. He is passionate when stimulated, but can be cold as ice. As we see him begin to evolve we will see him take on more of the positive Aries characteristics: he may take on a greater leadership role in the group, and a possible relationship with Kate may soften his hard edges.

Taurus – we don’t know Mr. Eko very well yet, but he is a classic Taurus with his strong bull neck and deep rich voice. His comment “don’t confuse coincidence with fate” is representative of Taurus’s desire for a practical experience of reality, unfettered by confusion. Eko has in his brief appearance on the scene demonstrated the famous stubborn quality of Taurus and also the ability to remain calm and unruffled during a crisis. He makes decisions deliberately and is not impetuous, but once he’s decided on a course of action it will be impossible to change his mind.

Gemini – Moving like quicksilver, darting from here to there and with a youthful look and demeanor, Kate is our Gemini. Gemini is the twins, and there are always two personalities: one light and one dark. Kate is the unhappy girl who has murdered at least two people that we know of, yet she has a smile as bright and sunny as a spring morning. Geminis are impatient and versatile, they can dig a ditch and sing in a choir and the next minute they are cooking a ten course meal. But they have a tendency to hide from themselves–rather, the dark side and the light side will hide from each other. The quest for Gemini is to integrate and become a whole individual and this is Kate’s challenge.

Cancer – Sun may be our Cancerian. Devoted to her family and husband, she is a homebody and doesn’t like to stray far from her camp. We often find her in the garden, where she creates herbal mixtures to help cure the ailments of her fellow castaways. Cancer is the nurturer, the keeper of family histories, the geneaologist. Like the crab, they are shy with a soft and vulnerable inner shell that they seek to protect. In the past she sacrificed herself for the sake of her father and her husband. We are beginning to see her come into her own and begin to nurture herself as well.

Leo – Charlie embodies many traits that we associate with Leo. Seeking to express himself creatively with his music, he has a sunny disposition and is generally available to be helpful to the castaways. Leo longs to be admired and respected, and Charlie lives in the past when he basked in the adulation of his groupies and fans. He cares for Claire’s child, but demands recognition for his abilities. The challenge for Leo is to begin to do good works for their sake and begin to let go of the egocentric desire for fame. However, like Charlie, Leos have big hearts and demonstrate kindness, and can always be counted on in an emergency.

Virgo – Meticulous, cautious and adept with machinery, Sayid is our Virgo. Virgos are famously perfectionists, and their detail-oriented natures make them excellent travel companions. They always have just the right tools for the job, and if they don’t they can improvise with items they find on the beach. Like Sayid, Virgos seek to help others and must have a job to do. They make excellent employees and are loyal to a fault, which will explain how Sayid could perform the tasks required of him in the Iraqi Republican Guard. They are not good at relaxing or vacations because something always needs to be done, and on the island Sayid rarely takes a break from the task of finding someone to rescue the castaways. In romance, a Virgo will often seek out a partner who needs their help; Sayid was the only one to see past Shannon’s self-centered exterior into her wounded center.

Libra – The departed Boone was our Libra. We didn’t get to know him very well, and this is a characteristic of Libra. Libra is focused on the “other,” and often loses the self in the process. Boone’s focus was on pleasing those around him – what did Shannon need from him? What did Locke need? Libra is the Scales, and in seeking the famous Libra balance, they often tip from one end of the scale to the other in the effort to strike a balance and achieve personal harmony. Libras are focused on partnerships, and you will rarely find them alone. At the end of his life, with Locke’s assistance, his Libra challenge was to balance his need to please those around him with a new strength in caring for himself.

Scorpio – Michael is our Scorpio. Passionate and emotional, he embodies the fiery water of the Scorpio man. Scorpio doesn’t flinch from intense emotions, and doesn’t really care what others think. The intensity of their nature can be off-putting, but they make the best and most loyal friends and lovers. They have a smoldering sensuality that is very attractive to women as we saw with Sun’s potential attraction to Michael. Scorpios can be strict disciplinarians as they have a tremendous respect for power and want to instill that in our children. Michael’s challenge will be to channel his frustration into a sense of empowerment, and begin to learn to let go and trust that life will take care of him.

Sagittarius – With her sunny disposition, Claire is our Sagittarian. Sagittarians are warm, generally optimistic, and typically liked by everyone. They generally have a great trust in life, unlike Scorpios, and this can make them naive in the face of danger. They typically dislike confrontation and prefer to approach life from a more superficial viewpoint, which can create problems as they ignore signals that warn of danger. Claire has great trust in Charlie, but may tend to prefer to remain unaware of some of the traits that have been bothering her about him.

Capricorn – Hard-working Jack is our Capricorn. Capricorns tend to be serious and focused on a goal, they seek to build something lasting in the world and make their mark on society. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn which often represents the father, and Jack’s complex relationship with his father makes him want to both please his father and surpass him. Capricorn privately yearns for joy, for happiness, but he is relentlessly driven from within and tends to feel responsible for everything and everyone. Jack takes his role as patriarch seriously, and rarely lets his secret desire for a personal life get in the way. His challenge in the healing process will be to learn to accept himself for who he is rather than what he can accomplish.

Aquarius – The Aquarian embrace of oddity is embodied in John Locke. Aquarians seek a change to the status quo; they are not content to live life the way it’s been lived before. The mystery of the island is not terrifying to Locke, he welcomes the opportunity to become transformed and sees more than anyone the healing properties that the island offers. He dislikes the hierarchy of power that puts Jack at th
e top rung of the ladder, and like all Aquarians prefers equality and brotherhood to a rigid social structure. “I love mankind, it’s people I can’t stand” is a common feeling among Aquarians. However, his ability to stand alone and allow himself to be transformed serves as a catalyst for the entire group of characters.

Pisces – Hurley is our Pisces, the Fish. Pisces is a chameleon, like water, they take the shape of the container they find themselves in. They are supremely adaptable to all situations. Like Hurley, who faced with endless days of boredom created a golf course. It is easy for Pisces people to slip into an unconscious approach to living their life, and this can often bring a string of bad luck and as we saw. Hurley’s winning of the lottery brought him nothing but misfortune. Pisces is creative, imaginative and romantic, and their challenge is to keep both feet on the grounds while they live in the clouds. Life on the Lost Island is teaching Hurley to do just that.
