The Optimism of Tim Tebow’s astrological chart

Tim Tebow astrologyNot being a sports fan I had no idea who Tim Tebow was, but as a student of human behavior this article in the New York Times intrigued me:

Tebow tends to have his worst 45 minutes of play when it matters least and his best 15 when it matters most. And while he makes many mistakes, their cost is seldom exorbitant. These aren’t so much skills as tendencies — inclinations — that prove to be every bit as consequential as the stuff of rankings and record books. He reminds us that strength comes in many forms and some people have what can be described only as a gift for winning, which isn’t synonymous with any spreadsheet inventory of what it supposedly takes to win.

This gift usually involves hope, confidence and a special composure, all of which keep a person in the game long enough, with enough energy and stability, so that a fickle entity known as luck might break his or her way. For Tebow that state of mind comes from his particular relationship with his chosen God and is a matter of religion. For someone else it might be understood and experienced as the power of positive thinking, and is a matter of psychology. Either way it boils down to stubborn optimism and bequeaths a spark. A swagger. An edge.

It’s easy to be pessimistic about optimism. When peddled generically by unctuous politicians, it can seem the ultimate opiate, a cop-out and fallback when there’s nothing more substantive to sustain you. But optimism can have an impact. It’s what radiates from Tebow and fires up the Broncos. And therein lies a lesson about leadership with a resonance beyond football.

Whether Tebow’s optimism comes from religious faith or within himself doesn’t matter for the purposes of astrological study – suffice it to say that it comes naturally to him and has infused his teammates with a confidence that has driven his team to turn around their losing streak and transform the playing field.

Tebow (born 8/14/1987, time unknown in the Phillipines) has the Sun in Leo which is a forceful and energetic sign.  Leo types NEED to develop a personality that is somewhat larger than life and learn to embrace the ups and downs of life in order to ultimately achieve lasting joy despite the details.  But that Leo Sun is only part of the equation.  Tebow’s Sun is part of a stellium in Leo that includes Mercury, Venus and Mars.  This guy has a ton of natural energy that helps to fuel his inner spirit, and he is also gifted with the natural competition that comes from a Sun/Mars conjunction.

As if that weren’t enough, these Leo planets are part of a Grand Trine in fire signs.  His Aries Moon (emotional needs and inner security) conjoins Jupiter, the very planet of confidence and optimism which often bestows a sense of righteousness and conviction.  This pair harmonizes with the natural competitiveness of the Leo stellium to add to the overall energy of the chart.

We don’t know Tebow’s ascendant (rising sign), but we do know that he has Saturn in Sagittarius.  When the planet of limitation (Saturn) is in the sign of confidence (Sagittarius), and in his chart it is retrograde to boot, there is more than a hint of self-doubt that creeps into the personality.  In this chart, with all of this fiery confidence and enthusiasm, that’s not a bad thing as it helps to temper and moderate what could be extremely reckless and impulsive behavior.  Because Saturn is trine his Sun, Venus and Mercury, he has an added benefit of Saturn’s discipline and sense of responsibility and this influence is likely the motivator behind Tebow’s religious humility.

Completing the fire trine is Uranus in a trine to both the Sun/Mars and the Moon and Jupiter.  Uranus inspires us to break free of restrictions and not to allow ourselves to become stuck in situations that no longer suit us, and in this chart it offers endless opportunities for change and new ideas and situations for Mr. Tebow.

This is an important year for Mr. Tebow as his progressed Sun is aligning in an exact square to progressed Saturn, suggesting something of great significance is to occur this year.  The significance is likely to be extremely positive since a long string of Jupiter transits beginning in March are likely to open new doors and bring new opportunities his way.

Optimism and confidence come easy for some people, but they are qualities that can be learned.  The certainty that good things will happen generally brings good things our way, and seeing only the negative will bring more bad luck.  Opening our minds to new possibilities is a skill that can be learned, and through practice we can all have the kind of confidence and optimism that can turn our lives around.

“Astrology may matter” in sports

michael jordan astrologyMore and more, real astrology is beginning to gain a new level of respect.  For example, this:

With Tiger Woods’ seemingly inexorable though not irreversible slide into an abyss, something never before thought possible, more players than usual will have a chance to win the PGA Championship this weekend at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. …

However, as I scour the top 40 players in the World Golf Ranking, I wouldn’t put money on Paul Casey, Robert Allenby, Sean O’Hair or Dustin Johnson to surprise and take the trophy. The reason? All were born under the sign of Cancer. And since the PGA Championship switched from match play to stroke play in 1958, nary a Cancer has claimed the Wanamaker Trophy.

Even the mention of astrology will likely cause readers to scoff. I count myself as one of the skeptics. But after examining the data closely, there appears to be at least a kernel of truth in the theory that astrology can sometimes help determine sporting greatness.
The signs that have utterly dominated the PGA are Aquarius, Capricorn and Virgo. The three have accounted for more than half the winners of the season’s final major. This is not surprising. Consider that any list of the best golfers of all time starts with Jack Nicklaus, an Aquarius, and Tiger Woods, a Capricorn.

With his Aquarian nature, Nicklaus is in extraordinary company from other sports. It can be argued that the “greatest ever” in each major sport was an Aquarius: Jim Brown in football, Babe Ruth in baseball, Michael Jordan in basketball, Wayne Gretzky in hockey and Bill Tilden in tennis. Any new believers in the truth-telling ability of the zodiac now?  [Aquarius is gifted with the ability to rise above personal emotions and innovate new performance styles.]

Tennis, the other major individual sport, also has stunning patterns. The three players routinely mentioned as the best of the Open era are Rod Laver, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer – all Leos. [Leo loves to win, and enjoys the sport of good-natured competition.] And Rafael Nadal has been labeled by John McEnroe as the 21st-century edition of Bjorn Borg. Why not? Both are Geminis. [Gemini would be well-suited to the sport of tennis, which requires a great deal of quick movement.]

In the second tier of most best-ever lists in golf reside Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson. Both are Virgos, who seem to be the most suited to golf, as their stereotyped traits of tenaciousness and industriousness are tailor-made for a sport that takes the utmost in patience. [Tiger Woods has Virgo rising.]

While no Cancers have ever won a PGA, their struggles in all four majors are nothing compared with the wretched record of Tauruses. Indeed, Taureans toil in near-futility when it comes to the majors. Only 11 of the 296 major championships examined (the Masters from its inception, the PGA from 1958 and the U.S. and British Opens since World War I, generally considered the start of the modern game) have been claimed by those born from April 21 to May 20.

Although this unscientific study is dealing solely with Sun signs, it is interesting nonetheless.  The fact that Cancerians and Taureans have bad sports records may not be surprising – these are the two signs that are primarily focused on security and therefore typically lack the aggressive competitive gene that creates great sportspeople.

Astrology doesn’t work for French football coach

Raymond Domenech astrologyThe coach of the French soccer team, Raymond Domenech, fancies himself an astrologer and has decided to avoid Scorpios when picking his team.

When Domenech took over from Jacques Santini in 2004 it looked to have ended the international career of Robert Pires.

It was then reported, before the World Cup in Germany, that Domenech had problems with the former Arsenal player because of his Scorpio star sign.

The former Arsenal player said at the time: “I must be annoying him. It’s like being at school. It’s like I’m 20 years old and playing football for the first time.” Pires has not played since, despite his continued for Spanish side Villarreal.

The France coach once admitted that a player’s international career could be at threat thanks to astrogy and it seems that Scorpios are not the only sign under the spotlight.

“When I have got a Leo in defence, I’ve always got my gun ready, as I know he’s going to want to show off at one moment or another and cost us,” he confessed.

It seems that it is not just down to players’ form, as Domenech states that “all parameters have to be considered and I have added one by saying there is astrology involved”.

Domenech has William Gallas, Gael Clichy, Julien Escude and Sebastien Squillaci in his squad, but all four have Leo as their star sign.

First of all, the term “star sign” is erroneous, Leo would be the SUN sign, not the STAR sign.  In any case, as my intelligent readers know, the Sun sign is only one part of the entirety that makes up the birthchart and Domenech’s strategy failed to give him a win in the World Cup tournament.  Ironically, despite Domenech’s choice of Leos, a fire sign, for his team this reviewer wrote that the French team lacked the firepower to beat any team.

If I were a football coach I would want players with Scorpio energy because they have to win!  They have tremendous drive and do not like to lose, with Pluto ruling their chart, power is all-important for them.  So why does Domenech dislike them?

Raymond Domenech (1/24/52, Lyon France, time unknown) has the Sun in Aquarius forming a challenging square to Mars in Scorpio.  His conflict with Scorpios originates in his own chart!   The detachment and idealism of Aquarius has no patience for the emotional entanglements and power struggles of Scorpio, and that Scorpio Mars is the only personal planet in his chart in a water sign.  I suspect that when he encounters that Scorpio energy he is put immediately on the defensive because it brings out that inner conflict within him and creates an immediate imbalance of power.

Domenech has the reputation of being quirky, as is typical of those with Aquarius influences in their chart.  And astrology itself is associated with the sign of Aquarius, which melds scientific reasoning with innovative new concepts and understanding.  But looking at sun signs alone does not an astrologer make, and Domenech does the field of astrology a disservice by attempting to use astrology without giving it some serious study.
