New Moon in Capricorn, December 24 2011

The Sun entered Capricorn on December 22nd, unlocking an irritating aspect between Jupiter (expansion) and Uranus (radical change). The Sun harmonizes with Jupiter which promotes harmony and self-confidence, but the Sun squares Uranus which can be frustrating as we come face to face with our limitations. As with any potentially challenging planetary event, just breathe and pay attention to the signals from the heart. Transits of the Sun last only a day or two, but they can open up the consciousness to receive important information from the spirit, especially on the 23rd when the Sun sextiles Chiron and increases our receptivity to that information.

All of this leads up to the Capricorn New Moon on December 24th. This New Moon is not an eclipse but it is a powerful event nonetheless because of the planetary aspects involved. Capricorn is the sign of achievement and mastery in the world, and the Capricorn New Moon is the perfect time to set goals and aspirations for the New Year. A trine from Jupiter to the Sun/Moon conjunction that forms the New Moon will help to facilitate our ability to think large and create a powerful and wonderful vision for the new year. The Jupiter/Chiron sextile can help us to heal and work through patterns that hold us back from achieving success.

The New Moon is a little more than 5 degrees from a conjunction to Pluto, intensifying the New Moon and forcing us to face up to something that is important for us to know but which we may have been struggling to keep repressed. In order to truly move forward in our lives we must remove the obstacles that stand in our way, and Pluto is the perfect ally for this task.

Jupiter is stationary at the New Moon and will turn direct the following day. Since we often call Jupiter Santa Claus, nothing is more appropriate than the fact that Jupiter turns direct on Christmas Day! Over the next few days the Sun will approach a conjunction to Pluto, so the last week of December is the perfect time to spend getting to know yourself a little more deeply than you have in the past. This is how personal power is achieved, and the increase of personal power will be your greatest ally in moving into the New Year with confidence and engagement on all levels of being.

New Year/New Moon Capricorn eclipse, January 4 2011

Eclipse January 4 2011Happy new year everyone!

I apologize for being somewhat AWOL over the past few weeks.  I have been making a lot of changes in the physical space and the technology in my office, and combined with the activities of the holidays there has not been much time for writing.  Now that the new year has begun, and my projects are ALMOST complete, I hope to see you more often once again.

The second in a series of eclipses that began with the lunar eclipse at the Winter Solstice occurred this morning at around 4 am Eastern time.   This eclipse, a solar eclipse at the New Moon in Capricorn on January 4th, features a lineup of four planets in Capricorn including not only the Sun and Moon, but also Pluto and Mars.  An eclipse occurs when one of the lunar nodes conjoins the Sun or Moon at the time of a lunation (a full or new Moon), and in the case of this eclipse Pluto is the bridge between the New Moon and the North Node.

Because the New Moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle, and because this New Moon contains the North Node which represents our future direction and Pluto creates endings that assist us in transformation, there is a sense here of propulsion into a new framework (Capricorn) that will help to support our lives and provide us with a stronger foundation than we have had before.  Any time Pluto is involved, there is a need to surrender and allow our higher selves and spirit teachers to create the necessary movement that will help to facilitate growth and evolution.  The Jupiter/Uranus urge to break apart these structures makes it absolutely imperative that the foundation we build at the Capricorn New Moon offers opportunities for new experiences and freedom of feeling and belief.

Venus (love and beauty) is extremely active at this New Moon, adding a grace note of love and beauty into the unfoldment of this new direction.  A challenging square from Venus to Neptune and Chiron may cloud our ability to clearly see the emotional issues that fragment our relationships, and it may take more conscious attention to unlock the core values that we find in our life. Fortunately, a trine from Venus to Jupiter and Uranus helps to make this happen, opening our hearts and creating ease as our emotional doors are opened wide to receive this expansion of energy that the New Moon bestows.

The lunation itself (the Sun/Moon conjunction) is squared by Saturn (achievement and restriction) which would normally add a challenging note, but since Saturn rules all four Capricorn planets it provides an additional stabilizing force that aids in the building of a strong foundation here.

This eclipse opens up an opportunity to restabilize our foundations and to discover what is truly real in our lives.  Capricorn doesn’t really care about magic or imagination – it has no patience for dreaming of possibilities yet to come.  Its focus is on the practical – what will serve us in our quest to become more successful at being human.  That is the focus for the energy that is coming through now.

What a great influence to aid us in our planning for a new year.  I have always felt that a new year offered a clean slate with which to begin anew.  Not to make resolutions that are too easily broken, but to make decisions that will help us to move closer to a life that we can really love.  Under this New Moon, allow yourself to discover what is real for you.  You may be surprised in what you find!

New Moon and Planetary Lineup

Tfractalhe New Moon today (December 27)  is part of a powerful line up of six planets in the sign of Capricorn, focusing on work and responsibility.  This includes the approaching conjunction of Mars to Pluto, the Sun/Moon conjunction which comprises the New Moon, with Jupiter and Mercury rounding out the stellium, as we call a grouping of planets in a sign.

Venus conjuncts Neptune on the 27th which aligns love for the individual (Venus) with the compassionate love of divine consciousness (Neptune), helping to set the stage for the New Moon in Capricorn. Capricorn is the sign of achievement and a successful life with both feet firmly planted in the material world. This will be an interesting Capricorn New Moon, occurring at a time when the material world is breaking down around us. It’s important to see now that as some aspects of our world break down (under the influence of Pluto in Capricorn), sprigs of new life are taking form – new life forms that will be better suited for the age in which we are living now. We see this with the Big Three automobile manufacturers in the US, which have become tied to an old model of doing business and protectionist thought that has broken down under the influence of globalization.

In this New Moon, Mars has just entered Capricorn and is exactly conjunct Pluto. The combination of Mars and Pluto links the will of the individual self (Mars) to the will of the higher self (Pluto). If the individual will is aligned with the greater Consciousness, this is a powerful planetary dynamic for change and positive growth. If the individual will is resisting the will for complete transformation that Pluto brings to the table, this can be extremely difficult. Six planets/lights are now in Capricorn: Mars, Pluto, Sun and Moon, and the approaching conjunction of Mercury and Jupiter, so practicality and Doing What Must Be Done (a Capricorn theme) is highlighted here.

For those of us who have planets near the zero degree of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Capricorn and Cancer), like me, with my Mars at zero degrees Capricorn, the last few days along with the next few days will apply an intense pressure for change.  Rather like the pressure that a diamond undergoes when being transformed from a lump of coal, this intense Capricorn focus that includes the fire of Mars aligned with the power of Pluto is designed to distill only what is most practical, most real, and most durable from our lives.

The New Moon provides energy for change, and this is really a terrific influence to have manifesting at the end of the year when we are reading to slough off the dead energy of the past and begin anew with the New Year.  Surrender to what is no longer needed, and begin creating the future.  Over the next couple of months the planets now lined up in Capricorn will shift into Aquarius, and Jupiter (abundance and opportunity) will conjoin Neptune (mysticism and creativity) between May and December, giving new ideas an opportunity to flower and take root.

Update: I really liked what Joseph had to say in the comments so I’ll add that here:

One part of this magic I find fascinating is the Saturn – Uranus opposition now occurring. Saturn rules Capricorn and Uranus rules Aquarius. As sign rulers, this dynamic tension will hold great sway over anything moving through their ruling sign. That so many aspects are affected at the same time by these filters bears important significance in the days ahead. Pluto/Mars sure has made its presence known as we unfortunately see renewed violence in the Middle East and Africa, and horrific acts here in the United States on Christmas Eve/Day. Obama has his Venus at 1 degree Cancer. He has been chaffing recently at the tight press bubble around him. No matter where he goes the press pool follows. Pluto’s “authority” in Capricorn is making that Cancer Venus very uncomfortable. And he’s not even sworn in yet. Will be interesting to see how he is able to rebalance this energy.

I’d also like to add that Pluto is about to make the second pass of a square to the Midheaven in the US chart.  The fact that Obama’s Venus is square to the Libra Midheaven in the US chart, and both are being challenged by Pluto right now, speaks to the transformative effect that Obama is having to the US Government as identified by the Midheaven in the national chart.

Is anyone else having an intense experience this week?
