The Frankenstorm and the US Election

astrology of Hurricane SandyFirst let me say that after living in North Carolina for many years I always take the hysteria over hurricane predictions with a grain of salt.  Predictive models have improved over the years, but like human behavior, nature has a way of being unpredictable.

That said, it appears fairly certain that the big storm heading towards the Atlantic coast over the next couple of days will bring widespread power outages and communication breakdowns.  As I wrote this summer:

In addition, Mercury stations retrograde on the day of the election which suggests that once again the results of the election will be unclear. Mercury stationed direct (meaning it had already been retrograde and then came to a standstill the day of the election before traveling forward again) on the day of the 2000 election which was hung up by voting machine failures and hanging chads.  During this 2012 election Mercury will be preparing to retrograde and go back over old issues and questions just as the election begins.  Mercury will be in Sagittarius which is associated with the entertainment industry and the court system, which suggests that once again election results could go back to court.  Mercury will be in a square to Neptune for a week or so before and after the election, indicating not only confusion over election localities and voter registration, but also suspected fraud and illegal wranglings.

This hurricane will combine with a cold front to bring snow and high winds that can knock down trees and power lines.  After a major storm it can take over a week to bring power to rural areas.  After Hurricane Fran we were out of power for over two weeks in our neck of the woods.  With the election hinging on Ohio voters, power failures that extend into that state WILL create the kind of Mercury retrograde havoc that astrologers have been predicting.

The Washington DC chart for the Full Moon that culminates this afternoon is very interesting.   Chiron (wounding and healing) and  Neptune (transcendent experience), both in Pisces, straddle the Pisces ascendant.  This is a very watery emphasis, suggesting fluidity and motion but also potential confusion.  Chiron and Neptune have been within five degrees of each other for several years now, working together to heal old wounds so that humanity can continue to move forward.   This conjunction trines the conjunction of the Sun and Saturn which is very positive for effective handling of the crisis.

However, Mars sits right on the Midheaven at the top of the chart with Jupiter at the IC, a configuration I wrote about a few days ago.  Loud arguing and conflict over the handling of a potential crisis caused by the storm is likely to overcome any potential working together to create healing and community that Chiron and Neptune would like to accomplish with the Sun/Saturn combination.

The Universe moves in mysterious ways, but always towards balance.  Sometimes the road we must take to achieve that balance is not the road we were expecting, and all we can do is watch and wait.

(Part II) Looking forward: The Transformation of 2012

This is Part II of a series that will conclude tomorrow.  You can catch up on Part I here, and tune in tonight (Wednesday) at 7 pm to the Musings on Astrology radio show where we will be discussing these important cycles.

Where we are now

transformation of 2012Art by Teka Luttrell. In 2010 a major alignment of planets in the cardinal signs of Capricorn, Cancer, Aries and Libra began to take shape.  Pluto in Capricorn, Saturn in Libra, and Jupiter and Uranus in Aries all  took their places in a drama that forced many of us to make changes in our personal lives in order to accommodate these global forces for healing and transformation.  These forces reached a peak during June’s eclipse in Cancer when the planets aligned in a Grand Cross of transformation and power.

Now that we are just one year away from the dreaded 2012, many are fearful of changes that might still occur.  “Haven’t we had enough change?” we may be asking.   And if everything in our personal lives is in balance, then we have had enough change.  THEN we are ready to take a break.  Until that point, the planetary gods work tirelessly to encourage personal and global transformation to bring balance into our earthly lives.

During the summer of 2011 Uranus in Aries will be within one degree of an exact square to Pluto in Capricorn.    The combination of Uranus and Pluto is a particularly potent one that breaks down old structures and ways of being (Pluto) so that something new and fresh and completely authentic can replace it (Uranus).  This is not always an easy process.  Those of us who remember the 1960s (when Uranus and Pluto conjoined in Virgo) will remember the thrill of radical and revolutionary new lifestyles that broke down the stuffy (Virgo) morality of the period.  This was a time of great liberation around the world: Black Power, Women’s Liberation, the domino of independent states across Africa as colonialism fell– but there was also a great Plutonic cost in terms of human lives that were lost  as the old order was broken down (Pluto) in order for change (Uranus) to take place.

The upcoming square of Uranus to Pluto will actually begin in the summer of 2012, and the two will dance an incredible seven times before concluding in March of 2015.  The turbulence that we see now sweeping across the Middle East and North Africa is just the beginning of this wave of Uranus/Pluto energy that seeks to sweep away the old and rotting corpse of a way of life that no longer works for humans at this stage of their psychic and spiritual development.  This same dynamic will be at work in our personal lives, revealing any pocket of experience that is no longer serving us and which needs to be removed from our lives.   This will understandably create a certain amount of chaos on an intimately individual level.

The changes of the next few years will most personally affect those of us with planets between 5 and 15 degrees of the cardinal signs (Cancer, Capricorn, Aries and Libra), and most especially those with Uranus and Pluto in these signs, including:

  • Those born between 1919 and 1928 with Pluto in Cancer
  • Those born between 1929 and 1932 with Uranus in Aries
  • Those born between 1951 and 1953 with Uranus in Cancer
  • Those born between 1969 and 1972 with Uranus in Libra
  • Those born between 1974 and 1978 with Pluto in Libra
  • Those born between 1989 and 1992 with Uranus in Capricorn

With Pluto in Capricorn, the very foundation of our material world will be challenged by the Uranian influence.  Our finances, our retirement plans, our marriages – any of these structures that we build to contain our lives could be threatened if they are not built on solid footings.  The effect of Uranus can be very stressful for the nervous system since Uranus operates on an electrical platform that can excite and thrill us, but also inspire anxiety and distress.   It is crucial to remember during this period that if any aspect of our personal lives break down under these influence, it is because they are no longer serving their purpose and require transformation in order for all involved to move forward in their personal evolution.

Astrology in my world: Conflicted about success

One of the challenges I run into often with clients who  come to me for Visioncrafting® work is a complex combination of emotions relating to success in our chosen field.  On the conscious level we want to be successful writers, business people, artists.  But lurking in the subconscious are old patterns and belief systems that keep us from bursting out and claiming the sense of accomplishment that rightfully belongs to us.

Fortunately, we can address those patterns and change the tapes that continually reinforce those belief systems once we can identify them, but digging them out of the subconscious isn’t always easy.  Fortunately we have a map in the form of a birthchart that helps us to discern where these patterns likely originate but then the rest is up to us.

I was just selected to speak at the United Astrology Conference 2012.  This is the biggest astrology conference in the United States – members of several different organizations convene every few years to illuminate each other.  This conference draws the best of the best so when I received the email informing me that my application to speak was accepted I was shocked.  Like other astrology bloggers I consider myself an outsider in the world of astrologers.  I don’t hold a certification, I haven’t published an astrology book … yet!!  Those of us who blog instead of publish books are renegades – we seek our own path to public recognition.

My friend April evidently also was shocked by her being selected to speak at UAC:

I’m not a big name, I don’t have a gift for schmoozing influential people, I haven’t spoken for a lot of astrology groups. If you have any two of those things going for you, and you keep at it, I’m willing to bet your odds in the future will be much better than mine were. As for me, taking nothing away from the hard work I’ve done in the last 20 years to establish myself in astrology – my progressed Sun is trining Jupiter this year, and to be honest, I think I just got lucky. That’s not to say I haven’t worked to earn it; it’s just that a lot of the people who didn’t get chosen have worked hard, too.

This is one thing I hate about competitive sports.  A team can work hard all year, have a great season, and then in one game lose everything.  But I digress…

I have the Moon in Leo, so you know there’s a big part of me that longs for fame.  My fifth house Sun echoes that need to seek experiences that will enlarge me and give me greater self-expression.  However, Pluto conjoins my Moon, which has a tendency to make one afraid to peek out the door of one’s secure space, and Saturn conjoins my Sun with its relentless pressure of inadequacy.  I’ve been an astrologer since the mid-1980s, yet it was years before I felt confident  enough to put myself out there with any real comfort.

For some reason this isn’t true of my life in real estate.  Perhaps it’s the Saturn component, and the fact that my Mars is in Capricorn, but I have always felt comfortable achieving in my real estate business.  I have practiced what I call Visioncrafting® for twenty years now and it has helped me to create great success in that world.  It is only recently that I have been able to unlock my fears around success in astrology.

I like to think that I’m perfectly happy in my small astrological world, where I speak occasionally at the local NCGR chapter and write my blog where face it, I am pretty much an anonymous face.  But SOMETHING made me send in my application to speak at UAC, and I suspect it was the part of my soul that knows without a doubt that practicing astrology is my true path and it’s time to stretch out of my comfort zone.

Like April, I have some guilt around having been chosen.  To renew the sports analogy, lots of other astrologers have played an excellent game all year and my winning one of the coveted 30 spots for new speakers means that 210 others did not.  But guilt is one of the major monsters that can prevent us from living the life of our dreams.  It encourages the idea of scarcity and keeps us from continuing to expand and grow.

Chiron and Neptune have been transting back and forth over my midheaven for the past two years or so.  The midheaven is the point that refers us to the calling that we feel from the soul to impact the world.  Typically this is considered to be the career, but it is not always the job that we hold.

In the early days of the Chiron/Neptune conjunction I wrote:

Chiron facilitates this aspect of soul work by uncovering any wounded places that have been left unresolved so that we can be freed of the blocked energy that our unreleased wounds hold within the body/mind/spirit system. Neptune assists by reminding us that there is a world of experience that lies beyond the boundaries of the material world.

As Chiron and Neptune complete the passage over my Midheaven, it appears that it is time for me to start opening those doors to that world of experience and walk through them.

Full Moon in Aries: October 22, 2010

Art by Steven Miller

The Full Moon on Friday, October 22nd, is at the very last degree of Aries.  Aries is the sign of initiation and courage; the sign that inspires us to forge ahead despite our fears and anxieties and make things happen.  The 29th degree is a symbol of completion, and the Full Moon is the symbol of fulfillment and readiness for gestation.  There is a sense here of a readiness for personal growth and evolution that can come to fruition if our conscious intention reflects the purity of the Will.

In this Full Moon we have the Sun at 29 degrees Libra opposite the Moon at 29 degree Aries.  The balance between Me and Others is the focal point of the Libra/Aries polarity, and with Venus, Libra’s ruling planet, currently unaspected and in her invisible phase of her retrograde journey, our connections with others can be obscured and confusing.  This gives the Aries Full Moon an opportunity to spring into action in a way that is more self-oriented than the Aries/Libra polarity would normally permit.

For a few days around the Full Moon we can feel more completely exactly who we are; less concerned with what others think and what others need from us.  This could create difficulties in our interpersonal relationships, especially with Mars in a challenging square to both Chiron and Neptune.

The Sun and the Moon are harmoniously aspected by Chiron (the soul healer) and Neptune (the spirit dancer), which suggests that as we orient ourselves deeply with the Truth within healing can occur gently and gradually as long as we let go and let the beauty of the lunar energy unfold.

However, a square of Mars to Neptune and Chiron may erode our confidence and fog the mind for a day or two, increasing our emotional sensitivity and the potential for hurt feelings and personal dramas.  Still, a harmonious sextile of Mercury to Pluto that is embedded in the Full Moon chart helps the mind (Mercury) to penetrate below the surface (Pluto) and reveal the essential Truth that lies underneath the drama or discussions.

Full Moon times are full of emotional and spiritual power; the Moon represents the heart of our being as well as our emotional heart, and during the Full Moon we have an opportunity to easily strip away the layers or protection that the personality builds to shield the Moon from danger, but which also separates us from our own hearts.

Pluto in Capricorn: Death to the Corporation

See below for update on the chart of the shooter.

I’m a little late on this subject because I was out all day yesterday preparing for a lecture so I missed the big news event: the crash of a private plane into an IRS building by Andrew Joseph Stack.  I’m hunting hard for a birth date for him and will post a character analysis as soon as that becomes available.

I did find a cache of the pilot’s online diatribe at the Smoking Gun.  Some Tea Partiers are acclaiming Stack as the hero of their cause, but they are missing the point.  Stack’s diatribe appears to favor communism over capitalism when he says “Capitalism: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.

Pluto’s entry into Capricorn, as we have been discussing over the past two years, is indicative of destruction and transformation (Pluto) of the foundational structures of our society (Capricorn).  Chiron and Neptune are still nearly exactly conjunct, bring up the anxiety and emotional wounds (Chiron) as well as creating potential delusion (Neptune).  I’ll know more when I have a birthtime, but it appears that the Chiron/Neptune conjunction was likely nearly exactly opposite Pluto in his own chart, activating a deep need within him to make some kind of permanent change.

I’d also like to reiterate something I’ve been saying for quite some time – that this kind of “lone wolf” act is what we have to look forward to when Uranus (radical revolutionary behavior) enters Aries (warfare and aggression) and begins to demand justice.

In other news…I’ve also been looking at the Tea Party phenomenon as being illustrative of the opposition between Saturn (conservative status quo) and Uranus (radical change and new ideas), but it’s starting to look more like Pluto in Capricorn:

Whatever you may think of it, the Tea Party Movement has become one of the biggest business success stories of the Great Recession. Using the Internet, various fairs and the machinations of what amounts to a highly-reputable public relations firm (FOX News), the Tea Party movement has become a successful business franchise.

It’s amazing but true. The once small company that started in Roger Ailes’ basement has actually become quite a profitable company. Just look at the goods that are offered online: one could purchase a Tea Party mug for just $19.99; “NObama” bumper stickers are available for the low, low price of just $2.95.

The Tea Party also provides recreational services. On a weekend, you can go to a public park with the family and enjoy the carnival and vendors that the Tea Party organizers set up. It’s also an educational experience because you have the opportunity to hear the wise the insights of the Philosopher King Glenn Beck as well as those of his disciples — all hawking this month’s book.

Or, if you want an atmosphere without all the plebs, I would suggest going to one of the Tea Party’s exclusive parties. Last month, the Tea Party Nation organization held a Tea Party National Convention in Nashville, Tenn. Each ticket was sold for $550. The headline speaker at this event was Sarah Palin, who charged the small fee of $100,000 to speak directly from the hand. Not a bad way to spend all those extra tax-break dollars President Obama set in place.

WIth my Capricorn Mars I appreciate a good business venture as much as the next girl.  But the necessity to make a dollar off of every idea that comes along is taking the Capricornian virtue of business acumen to an appalling (Plutonian?) extreme.

Update:  This site has a DOB of August 31, 1956.  ouch! Saturn is exactly square to Pluto, and being affected right now by the Chiron/Neptune conjunction, exactly.  Sun/Jupiter conjunction suggesting an overblown sense of importance; Venus and Moon both in Cancer, personalizing his connection to the world and causing him to feel everything extremely personally.  Mars is in Pisces, with a grand trine in water including Venus and Saturn in Scorpio.  Watery Grand Trine people can sometimes find it difficult to have any objectivity with respect to their emotion, and his chart is very short on the air element which would provide that objectivity.

Conspiracy corner: The end of swine flu hysteria?

If you’ve read this blog for a while, you’ve heard me ranting for just about a year now about the hysteria being manufactured over the swine flu.  When Chiron (health and healing) conjoined Neptune (spirituality but also illusion and delusion) beginning last February when they made a close approach, and then again in May and June when their conjunction tightened to within 14 minutes, anxiety over the swine flu escalated. Yet all of the statistics I was observing continued to show that the swine flu was actually less dangerous than the seasonal flu.

We are now in the middle of flu season, and the swine flu has virtually disappeared from the news, leading some European health officials to launch an investigation into the World Health Organization’s misleading the world through building panic around the globe that put billions of dollars into the pockets of drug manufacturers.  In fact, European governments are canceling orders of vaccines and attempting to sell their leftover stock back to the pharmaceutical companies, and India has asked WHO to explain why they manufactured the swine flu threat to benefit the drug companies.

Wolfgang Wodarg, head of health at the Council of Europe, said in an interview with the Daily Mail: “The governments have sealed contracts with vaccine producers where they secure orders in advance and take upon themselves almost all the responsibility.  In this way, the producers of vaccines are sure of enormous gains without having any financial risks. So they just wait, until WHO says ‘pandemic’ and activate the contracts,

This is what I said back in April 2009 when I wrote:

Evidently I’m not completely crazy.  My research uncovered this lost news story from back in February which reported that Baxter International “unintentionally” contaminated vaccine samples with Bird Flu virus.  The contaminated vaccines were sent to subcontractors in several European countries.  ”Coincidentally,” Baxter International began working with the World Health Organization to develop a vaccine against the Swine Flu in April.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization and the CDC in the US continue to push for universal vaccination, and the CDC is insisting that one out of five Americans has contracted the swine flu.  But as this sensible report reveals, the CDC’s accounting model is flawed.

I’m glad to see this information coming out in the mainstream press!

The Mars square and recent cyber-attacks

The recent cyber-attacks on government computers in the United States and South Korea coincide with the square (90 degree aspect) from Mars (warfare, aggression) to the Triple Conjunction of Chiron, Jupiter and Neptune which is still tightly in alignment.  On a personal level that Triple Conjunction has served as a call from the soul to delve deeply into the unfolding healing process in order to more consciously awaken to every part of our being.  (See my website and this blog for plenty of articles on the Chiron/Neptune conjunction.

That square from Mars began moving into alignment to form a challenging square aspect to the Big Three just after the first of the month, and by July 4, the date the attacks began, Mars was within one degree from the aspect to Chiron and moving quickly towards an exact square to all three.  This has been a challenging few days for many people, particularly because of the addition of the lunar energy from the Full Moon.  There has been a great deal of aggression in the air with a tremendous bomb blast in Afghanistan, revolution in Honduras, riots in ethnic areas in China, a surge of violence in Iraq.

When Mars squares Chiron in our personal birthcharts there is often a stripping away of any veneer that protects us from our wounded emotional places (Chiron), and we often react with anger (Mars) as a result.  The same appears to be occurring on the global stage as well.  With Chiron and Neptune in Aquarius, the sign that rules technology, and Uranus, the planet ruler of technology, in the sign of Pisces which can obfuscate the truth and create confusion, it’s no surprise that techniques of war are rapidly mutating into technological areas. Cyber attacks were originally the province of geeky young guys with dreams of bringing down the CIA or Wall Street from their bedrooms.  Now powerful nations are hiring these geeky young guys to administer cyber attacks on a much larger scale.

In last Sunday’s radio show I discussed the Solar Return chart of the United States, whose birthday is widely celebrated as July 4, 1776.  The Solar Return marks the exact moment that the Sun returns to its place in the natal chart and is often used as a predictor of what is likely to manifest over the coming year.  Embedded in the US Solar Return is this Mars square which suggests that it will be difficult for the US to achieve peace over the next year.

More thoughts on the Chiron/Neptune conjunction

Chiron Neptune conjunctionI did a reading for a brand new baby the other day.  I love doing consultations for parents of beings that have just entered the earth plane, because it’s all about possibilities and choices and talents and skills.  Challenges too, of course, but when we understand the charts of children, parents, spouses, siblings – really anyone! – a new level of conscious awareness improves the way that we relate to each other.

Anyway, this baby of course has the approaching conjunction of Jupiter to Chiron and Neptune. This triple conjunction has been building for quite some time and will culminate within a half a degree on May 26.  All children born at this time have this conjunction in their charts, and in fact all children born between around March 2008, when Chiron and Neptune first entered the orb of their conjunction, and around April of 2011 when they meet for the last time, will be the “Chiron Neptune” generation.

Neptune is the planet that drives us to fulfill our spiritual longing.  Every individual has in their nature a longing for an experience that will provide us with a connection to our inner Self.  For some of us this manifests in a desire for the perfect bowling score.  For some it is an experience of God in a Church.  For some it is a few beers when we get home from work, or losing ourself in a beautiful piece of music.  The experience is different – the motivation is the same.

When we add the experience of Chiron, the Wounded Healer, it becomes necessary to process any psychological and emotional blocks in order to gain that Neptunian experience.  Chiron doesn’t just invite us to enter the inner world of our abandoned psychic debris – it throws that stuff up in our face where we have to face it.  Our emotions can run wild, feeling out of control, as any old undigested memories or emotional angst surfaces so that it can be dealt with.  This process can be exhilarating if we surrender to it and treat it just like cleaning out the basement.  It’s a painful process to go down there and see all of the crap that has accumulated, but a thrilling feeling to be rid of it once and for all.  The Chironic process helps to open the heart more and more fully, and in this process we gain greater wisdom and a phenomenal sense of peace.

The addition of Jupiter here is a two-edged sword.  On the one hand the conjunction of Jupiter to Neptune expands (Jupiter) the longing for spiritual redemption and renewal (Neptune) which can lead us to incredible experiences of spiritual advancement now.  On the other hand, Jupiter can lead to excesses of escapist behavior and flights of fantasy, both of which fall under the dark side of Neptune’s domain..

If this triple conjunction is triggering a planet in your own chart, you are likely experiencing a highly emotional state right now and some resistance to the surrender that is required now.  Letting go to the river of spiritual evolution isn’t easy, but if you can stay in the canoe during this exciting whitewater ride of the triple conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, you will emerge having freed yourself and able to enter a higher level of awareness and conscious action.

The generation that embodies this planetary combination will, I feel, be extremely sensitive and easily wounded.  But they will also possess the tools to process their wounds quickly and emerge as deeply human but also amazing spiritual beings.

I found this gorgeous art on the web but it was unattributed.  If you know who created this piece please let me know!

The Chiron/Neptune Conjunction of 2009-2010: Part One

Chiron NeptuneOne of the big astrological events for 2009 is the triple conjunction of Chiron and Neptune with Jupiter that will culminate at the end of May when all three planets are within 1 degree of each other in Aquarius.  Although the exact conjunction won’t occur until February 17, 2010, Chiron and Neptune are within a degree of a conjunction now, so this planetary event is definitely well underway.

So what will this mean for us?  Chiron teaches us to face the old wounds of our past and allow ourselves to be healed, opening us up to greater wisdom and understanding that we can then pass along to others.  Neptune inspires us towards a more transcendent experience of our lives that encourages us to recognize the impermanence of life’s mysteries.  However, each of those planets have a darker face as well that can arise.  If we resist the Chiron experience we can become stuck in our own wounds, unable to see that they are of our own making and unable to let go.  If we resist the Neptune experience we can feel confused or become deluded by our fantasies and illusions.

Both Chiron and Neptune pose difficulty for the expression of the ego.  Chiron requires that we process the wounds of the psyche before the ego can manifest in a truly healthy form, and Neptune calls for the transcendence of the ego into the divine unconscious: “from a drop of water to the endless sea.”  In Aquarius that transcendence of the ego is even more important as Aquarius is a transpersonal sign; the sign that loves mankind but isn’t so crazy about people as individuals.  The new “transhumanism” is a signature of Aquarius, in which technology and innovation are used to perfect the human being.

Because of this transpersonal nature of Aquarius, it is not the sign best suited to the kind of emotional processing that is required by Chiron.  Where Scorpio will delve deep into a rich depression and excavate the psychological wisdom that can be found there, Chiron in Aquarius may instead retreat into a world of technology where life is more easily managed and the emotional component is less compelling.  The result of this can be a core loneliness and isolation that is not easily rectified. On the other hand, there is also a brilliant innovation at work under the influence of Aquarius, and Chiron in Aquarius can bring about new and unique healing modalities that occur as conventional wisdom is rejected and new ideas brought forth.  Aquarius is doubly ruled by Saturn and Uranus, and Chiron is the bridge between them so with Chiron in Aquarius we have a linkage between form (Saturn) and trans-form (Uranus).

In the conjunction, we sometimes get the best of the planets involved and sometimes their more difficult faces, depending on how we approach them and how they affect the rest of our charts.  With Chiron and Neptune working in tandem, we are being called to deepen our spiritual experience of life in a body (Neptune) through feeling and releasing the pain of being human (Chiron).  Barbara Hand Clow, whose book Chiron: Rainbow Bridge Between the Inner & Outer Planets is a wonderful resource, says that Chiron and Neptune serve to “bring the higher self into space and time” where we can become both grounded into our true natures under Chiron’s influence, and fully aligned with our higher self (Neptune) at the same time.

“Heart Pill to Banish Bad Memories”

Chiron and Neptune have been within range of a conjunction since early 2008, but the conjunction won’t be exact until next summer.  Still, the Wounded Healer and the Mystic Escapist are definitely dancing together, which may be how we ended up with this:

Scientists believe a common heart medicine may be able to banish fearful memories from the mind.

The Dutch investigators believe beta-blocker drugs could help people suffering from the emotional after-effects of traumatic experiences.Tieve the drug alters how memories are recalled after carrying out the study of 60 people, Nature Neuroscience reports.
But British experts questioned the ethics of tampering with the mind.
Paul Farmer, chief executive of mental health charity Mind, said he was concerned about the “fundamentally pharmacological” approach to people with problems such as phobias and anxiety. He said the procedure might also alter good memories and warned against an “accelerated Alzheimer’s” approach….
Experiments on animals has shown beta blockers can interfere with how the brain makes sense of frightening events.
She told Nature Neuroscience: “Millions of people suffer from emotional disorders and the relapse of fear, even after successful treatment.
“Our findings may have important implications for the understanding and treatment of persistent and self-perpetuating memories in individuals suffering from emotional disorders.”
But Professor Neil Burgess of the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience said the research merely demonstrates that the beta blockers reduce a person’s startle response, breaking the association of the spider to these unconscious responses.
And Dr Daniel Sokol, lecturer in Medical Ethics at St George’s, University of London, saidmemories were important, for people to learn from their mistakes for example [emphasis added].

“Removing bad memories is not like removing a wart or a mole. It will change our personal identity since who we are is linked to our memories. It may perhaps be beneficial in some cases, but before eradicating memories, we must reflect on the knock-on effects that this will have on individuals, society and our sense of humanity.”

read more here…

I’ve written on this subject before, particularly here and here.  The fascinating thing about reading an astrological chart is that you can see the difficult traumas and abuse right there in the chart, meaning that individual was born with a predisposition to these events.  Rather than “bad karma,” this is, I believe, a conscious choice on the part of the soul to work through difficult challenges and emerge a stronger and more incredible human.  I believe this because it has been my own personal experience.

Working through bad memories is what Chiron is all about, and Neptune has the tendency either to want to sublimate bad memories through escapism, or to embrace it as part of the spirituality of life.  If we take the first path, we will end up with an unresolved life and without the benefits of having worked through the pain of our past. Chiron has been in Aquarius for several years now, and we have seen an associated explosion of modalities that utilize energy (Aquarius) healing (Chiron).   With Chiron and Neptune both in Aquarius, sign of technological advancement as well as energy, it’s not surprising that some are turning to pharmaceuticals for an easy way out.
