Happy Birthday USA 2014: Challenges ahead

(Note:  There are many different astrological charts for the United States and lots of arguments among astrologers about which ones is correct.  I use the Sibley chart with Sagittarius rising, and here’s why. )

The Solar Return chart is a chart that is cast for the exact moment the Sun in the sky returns to the same degree as the natal chart.  Many astrologers use the Solar Return chart to forecast the details of the next twelve months in an individual’s life – I don’t care to use it for that purpose because I believe that we have a great deal of free choice and I prefer to encourage my clients to learn to trust their inner voice and not depend on what they are told by astrologers.  If there is a chance of a hurricane you will probably not cancel your vacation – you will hope for the best and go on your vacation, and then if that hurricane does come you can always change your plans.  But it’s helpful to know that there is a chance of a storm so you can make a contingency plan.

The chart for the USA Solar Return is a challenging one with a Grand Cross in cardinal planets lining up the Moon in Libra in opposition to Uranus in Aries,  squaring the Sun in Cancer opposing Pluto in Capricorn.  A Grand Cross creates tremendous tension that culminates in a crisis of release and ultimate transformation, and the presence of a Grand Cross in a Solar Return chart suggests that there will almost certainly be a major shift in governmental forces and political alignments in 2014.

The Sun in the US chart lives in the Seventh House.  Today we think of the Seventh House as the house of marriage and partnership but in traditional astrology it was also the house of “open enemies.”  The political power base in this country thrives on uniting the nation against a common enemy, and in today’s world there are enemies everywhere.  Politicians want to send our troops back into Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Ukraine, to Mexico – the enemies are now too numerous to fight with an already weakened infrastructure (thanks to Pluto in Capricorn).

This is a challenging time for the USA in any case because of the transits of Uranus and Pluto which is directly affecting the US Sun.  Despite the denial machine of the conservative think tanks, American power is on the wane as I wrote back in 2012.  The combination of this Solar Return chart with the planetary transits affecting the US chart at this time suggest that 2014 will be the year that it becomes painfully obvious that the world has changed and the United States needs to adjust with it.

I think great changes are badly needed in America. All the crisis we faced in 2008-nothing has been solved. The too big to fail banks are now too bigger to fail. Obama ran and won on a platform of getting out of Iraq and Afghanistan (not un-coincidentally called the Graveyard of Empires) and better healthcare-which has morphed into a bailout plan for the HMOs. When was the last time RICO was used to break up a huge company? It is badly needed today. The middle class is in its death throes with too many immigrants and far too few jobs; most without decent pay or benefits. I think the single most important thing we can do is to get more people on the land growing and raising foods locally. As Mike Ruppert said; 50 million bankers, lawyers, or politicians aren’t going to save this country. But 50 million farmers just might.

Yes, it is apparent to all who have the clarity of perception to see that the US Empire is on the decline. How long the smoke and mirrors will be able to sustain the illusion is the question. Thanks to your astrological analysis, Lynn, it looks like the cracks in the infrastructure are widening…

“Cracks in the infrastructure” – yep, Pluto in Capricorn.
