The Capricorn Full Moon the 15th occurs with the Moon in Capricorn opposite the Cancerian Sun. Signs in opposition are like the Yin/Yang symbol – each sign contains what the other lacks, and the Full Moon requires that we integrate those opposing forces. The Cancerian Sun is concerned with family and feeling – a connection to our tribe and our ancestors. There is an emotional focus that personalizes everything we see. The Capricorn Moon is all about responsibilities and prefers to put emotions aside until our responsibilities and tasks are […]

This Full Moon is a Supermoon

photo taken from www.forphotography.com. The Full Moon on January 30st will be a very interesting event – so interesting that it’s getting its own radio show entitled “Fire and the Full Moon.”  It’s not only a powerful Moon astrologically, but it’s at perigee, meaning it’s at its closest proximity to the Earth.  This is why it is so big and beautiful, but it’s also more powerful now.  Spaceweather says it’s the biggest Full Moon of the year, and astrologer Richard Nolle, who coined the term “Supermoon” as far as I can tell, […]

Full Moon, Blue Moon, Eclipse Moon and Other Planetary News

Once in a Blue Moon, by Sofanya White. A gorgeous big moon followed me home tonight, even though she technically won’t be full until the afternoon of New Year’s Eve.  This is a Blue Moon because it’s the second Full Moon in a month, something that doesn’t happen very often (hence the term “once in a blue moon”).  It’s also an eclipse, because the lunar nodes are involved; however, it’s a partial eclipse and not very powerful astrologically. The Full Moon occurs when the lunar principle of the subconscious inner […]

Harvest Moon Tomorrow!

Harvest Moon

The Full Moon on the 15th is the Harvest Moon, so named because the period between sunset and moonrise is shorter as we near the Autumnal Equinox which makes for a longer workday on the farm. This Full Moon is in the sign of Pisces. During the Full Moon, the Sun opposes the Moon, and there is a tension between the conscious mind and the more lunar instinctive emotions. With the Sun in Virgo, the tension in this Full Moon is between creating order out of our mundane reality (Virgo) and […]

Notes on the Upcoming Eclipse

In my travels on the web today I found this article by Geoffrey de Meaux, a French astrologer from that time about an eclipse that occurred in March of 1345 that he believes was the harbinger of the plague.  His description of the mechanism of the eclipse is eloquent and vivid: The sun is the lord, the director of all events, both general and specific, and the moon is second to him in dominion and power, and their effect is to intensify the effects of the planets acting with them.  […]

Solstice Full Moon tomorrow!

I interrupt the Obama series to bring you the Full Moon! NASA reports: On Wednesday night, June 18th, step outside at sunset and look around. You’ll see a giant form rising in the east. At first glance it looks like the full Moon. It has craters and seas and the face of a man, but this “moon” is strangely inflated. It’s huge! You’ve just experienced the Moon Illusion. There’s no better time to see it. The full Moon of June 18th is a “solstice moon”, coming only two days before […]

Full Moon! And Other Planetary News

I’m finishing a hectic week so I will quote from Skywatch. I should be back to my regular schedule by Monday so please bear with me over the weekend. I will try to find interesting things for you to read, though. On the 18th Mercury trines both Pluto and Saturn, enhancing their influence on each other as they dance together but never aspect each other completely. The addition of Mercury to this combination increases our understanding of the process on a much more conscious level. This is a great time […]

Big Full Moon on Friday. I mean, really big!

solstice_moon_illusion_1

The full Moon of Dec. 12th is the biggest and brightest full Moon of the year. It’s no illusion. Some full Moons are genuinely larger than others and this Friday’s is a whopper. Why? The Moon’s orbit is an ellipse with one side 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other: diagram. In the language of astronomy, the two extremes are called “apogee” (far away) and “perigee” (nearby). On Dec. 12th, the Moon becomes full a scant 4 hours after reaching perigee, making it 14% bigger and 30% brighter than […]

Full Moons gain respect!

A police inspector in Sussex England recently discovered solid evidence for a link between criminal behavior and full moons: “I compared a graph of full moons and a graph of last year’s violent crimes and there is a trend.” Full moons and paydays were the two major links to an increase in aggressive behavior. Something we who watch the moon have known for quite some time!

Full Moon Today is a “Wolf Moon”

As earlier noted, today’s full moon is a powerhouse and it’s influence is likely to extend for several days. With Mars (god of war) in a strong conflict with both Jupiter (god of gods) and Neptune (illusion and confusion), we have already seen an increase in conflicts and tensions across the globe that seem to have no outlet. January’s full moon is known by Native American traditions as the “Wolf Moon.” Art at Aquarian Soul has this interesting article: Traditionally January has been esconced between the cold and deep snows […]
