The Taurus Full Moon showers blessings on November 4, 2017

A glorious Full Moon in Taurus showers its blessings on November 4th. Ruled by Venus, Taurus calls upon us to put aside the extremes of our ideas and emotions and find a harmonious balance of peace and comfort.

Venus is well known for its association with love and beauty, but also governs the manner in which we view our life – our aesthetics, our self-esteem and, our ability to create resources out of the raw material of our day to day existence.

Under the Full Moon, the Scorpio Sun and its opposite, the Taurus Moon, struggle for supremacy and ultimately find integration.  The intensity of Scorpio finds balance against the placid nature of Taurus, softening some of Scorpio’s hard edges and urging us to ground and center into the Earth.

Venus is very active in this Full Moon: a Venus/Saturn combination offers stability in our relationships, but a stressful Venus/Uranus aspect could be divisive and require us to put space in our dealing with others where needed.

In addition, the challenging square between Saturn (restriction and tests) and Chiron (wounding and healing) is culminating now, facilitating our own transition through the healing journey into the comfort of the healed. Because this Full Moon is so centered on the influence of Venus, our relationships will be critical and areas that have been difficult could blossom into something magical.

This is a good time to bring people together over food, or in the enjoyment of beauty such as a trip to a museum or park. The pleasures of the physical realm will help to smooth any rough edges that Uranus may infuse into the Full Moon experience.

Libra New Moon, October 19 2017: Finding balance in the midst of chaos

Libra New Moon(See the end of the post for the geeky astrological details)

The New Moon is the darkest time of the lunar cycle – the time when there is no lunar light. The Sun and Moon are in exact alignment in the sky, at the same degree, and the lunar light is obscured by the Sun. For a brief moment we are suspended in time, and life is full of unrealized potential.

New Moons are famously a time for a new beginning.  A new lunar cycle – a new way of looking at the world.  In Libra, that new beginning takes the form of a new way of seeing all of the different kinds of relationships in our world: relationships between people, polarities of ideas, the spectrum of beliefs.  Under the influence of Libra, every thing is weighed against another in the attempt to find balance and perfect harmony.  Giving and receiving and the sharing of energy becomes more important, and integrating the two into a perfect flow becomes the goal.

This perfect harmony is difficult to achieve in today’s world which is full of accelerated intensity and chaos, and the achievement of equilibrium is made more difficult in this year’s Libra New Moon as a disruptive force applies pressure on both the Sun and Moon, demanding that we get out of our comfortable environments and find a new way that is more authentic and true. And yet Venus, the ruler of this New Moon, is also in the sign of Libra, reminding us that love and beauty are of paramount importance, and what will save this world and ourselves as well.

Still, there is a force of intensity and passion that continues knocking at the soul’s door, demanding to […]

The compelling power of the Aries Full Moon October 5, 2017

Aries Full Moon Image from EarthSky.org

This Aries Full Moon takes the power of Mars to energize us and stir us to action, and amplifies it into a new dimension.  Mars is locked in a dramatic tango with Venus right now, and Mars is the ruler of this Full Moon which promotes it to great importance.  This means that we are more self-oriented and potentially more reactive than we might normally be, and this can result in greater interpersonal conflict.

This dance is embedded in the chart of the Aries Full Moon – another symbol of polarities since the Sun is in Libra, the sign of balance, and the Moon is in Aries, Libra’s opposite polarity. Aries is self-oriented where Libra attempts to balance self vs other – finding that sweet spot in the middle is the message of the Aries Full Moon on October 5th.

Our relationship with others are a mirror of our own internal conflicts, and the attempt to find a harmonious counterbalance, both in our own emotional natures and personalities and in our relationships, is intensified and made more urgent with.  Anything artificial or illusory falls away under this Full Moon and we are given the choice to create transformation or remain in ignorance.

Fortunately, we are blessed at this time with mental clarity and an enhanced ability to communicate our personal wisdom, and a grounding influence can help to provide stability but may also set up road blocks that need to be worked through. In the midst of this, there is a tremendous push for personal liberation and creating the kind of change that will facilitate and encourage a release from old patterns that bind us.

Geeky astrological details – These aspects are embedded into the Full […]

Setting the stage: the Lunar Eclipse at the Full Moon in Aquarius

lunar eclipse august 2017 Photo by Brian Abeling

We are deeply into the season of Leo now – Leo the lion, the Divine Child, the magical Self.  Beginning with the first Leo New Moon on July 23rd, moving through the lunar eclipse on August 7th when the Leo sun obscures the Aquarius Moon, and culminating at the Solar Eclipse on August 21 (did you buy your eclipse glasses yet??), the divine energies of Leo are showering us with blessings of self-actualization and the potential for the opening of the heart.

Leo is ruled by the Sun, the center of the solar system and of the astrological pantheon.  The Sun represents the True Self – the incarnated soul. Powered by the giver of life, the solar energies, Leo encourages us to be our best self that we can possibly be.  The Sun is associated with the physical heart in medical astrology, and scientific studies have shown that the health of the emotional heart (the Moon) is connected to the health of the physical heart (the Sun) as well.

Leo’s tendency is to try to feel good about one’s self through impressing others rather than through simply doing good things with no apparent reward such as Leo’s opposite, Aquarius, might do.  In today’s lunation, the Leo Sun will pass directly over the Aquarius Full Moon, giving us an opportunity to transcend the individuality of our personal ego and connect with all of mankind – to take a higher perspective and a broader vision than the usual (Aquarius) while allowing the majesty of our individual brilliance to continue to shine (Leo).

Mars aligns with the Sun in Leo, enhancing this Leo influence even more, and the North Node of the […]

It’s here! The Solar Eclipse of August 2017 – what does it mean for you?

August 2017 Leo eclipse from the Tarot de St Croix The Solar eclipse on August 21, 2017 falls in the sign of Leo, the Divine Child – the innocent heart, the soul of magic and wonder.  Leo rules the heart and the vitality of the Self: it encourages us to open our hearts to love for others and for ourselves. Ruled by the Sun itself, Leo is the essence of Kingship – the divine and royal part of ourselves that is full of self-respect and kindness.  Leo encourages us to express our best selves and while Leo is associated with the need for admiration, ultimately our best selves find expression without the need for others’ notice and attention.  Creative self-expression and the courage and confidence to allow our inner beauty to be expressed through outward means are the force behind the Leo New Moon.

A solar eclipse occurs at the New Moon, when the Sun and Moon are conjunct (next to each other) in the sky.  As the Moon moves through its orbit it passes between the Sun and the Earth, briefly obscuring the light of the Sun.  A New Moon is only an eclipse when the lunation (Sun/Moon conjunction) occurs near the lunar nodes, the points where the Moon crosses the path of the Sun.  Here is where astrology gets involved:  The descending (South) and ascending (North) nodes of the Moon represent a path of Fate from the past (South Node) to the future (North Node).  For this reason, an astrological eclipse can bring about events that have enormous significance, especially if they fall on a point in someone’s individual chart.

The chart this eclipse is a fiery one!  This is the second Leo New […]
