Scorpio New Moon at All Hallow’s Eve 2016 – what could be more perfect?

Scorpio New MoonThe Scorpio New Moon occurs late on the 29th/early on the 30th depending upon your time zone.  New Moons are widely heralded as times of brand new beginnings, and the sign that the New Moon falls in defines the energies at work as we reboot and begin again.  The Scorpio New Moon demands that we find our passion – take a stand.  This is not a time for superficiality; under the influence of Scorpio we must dive into the subconscious and unearth our most secret desires.

The planet Mercury, the messenger god, aligns with the Sun and Moon to motivate a greater understanding on the intellectual level.  Traditional astrology calls a Sun/Mercury conjunction “combust” and assumes that the Sun weakness the energy of Mercury, but in my experience a Sun/Mercury alignment adds the light of consciousness from the Sun to the mental workings of Mercury to illuminate and add greater insight and awareness.  At this time of year the veil that separates the planes of earthly existence from other planes grows thin, and Mercury, in its role of messenger, aids in communication between the worlds.

This New Moon has the potential to release creativity and magic thanks to a lovely trine to dreamy Neptune.  Under the realm of Scorpio we can harness emotion in its purest form – raw, instinctive and potent.  Neptune encourages us to open our hearts to a more transcendent magic.

This New Moon comes at the time when the veil between worlds is said to be thinnest, at All Hallows Eve, and the astrology is perfect for a powerful shamanic journey.

Aries Full Moon on October 16th: Lock and load!

40171345 - man fire show on the beach ,koh kood ( kood island ) thailandAries is the sign of the warrior – the trailblazer, the adventurer, the lone gunman.  Ruled by Mars, Aries acts through raw instinctual power and primal motivations.  The Moon also rules instinctive behavior and reactions, but through emotion rather than force, so this is not a time when cool heads and rational thought will prevail.

In the Full Moon the Sun is opposite the Moon, with the Earth in the middle.  There is a need for finding balance between two zodiacal opposites, and here we have the Libra Sun seeking balance and harmony opposing the Aries Moon, urging us to find what’s real in our hearts and trust our instincts.  However, Mars is aligned with Pluto now so the aggressive force is made even more powerful.

This is a Supermoon (TM Richard Nolle) – the Moon is closer to the Earth than at other times and its influence is more powerful.  The psyche is deeply affected during the Supermoons, especially the Full Moons which tend to have a heightened abundance of emotional power anyway.

We can prepare for this infusion of warrior energy by becoming more aligned with our own warrior nature.  Increasing your physical strength, finding your center of power in the solar plexus, listening to hear where you may be holding anger in your body and finding ways to express that anger and release it – all of these are important tools for getting the most out of this powerful period.

To complicate matters, this Full Moon is aspected by Uranus – planet of radical reaction and revolutionary behavior.  If we are stuck in a pattern, relationship or situation, the rebellious force will be even more powerful over the next few days.  With Saturn (tests and challenges) in a stressful square to the North Node (path to the future), decisions and changes made under this influence could affect us for quite a while to come.

After the Full Moon the Sun and Mercury both enter the sign of Scorpio between the 22nd and 24th and we are more easily able to access the depths of the subconscious and the emotional realms over the next few weeks. The chaotic warrior energy subsides but the quality of the intensity remains.  This is not a time for superficiality – important work is going on here.

This week’s Libra New Moon is full of abundance and the power of love

Libra New Moon

“Justice – Sun Moon Tarot”

The Sun and Moon converge in the sign of Libra this week, showering New Moon blessings that pack a real punch.  Libra is associated with relationships and ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty so the importance of aesthetics and harmony is highlighted in this New Moon.  But Libra is represented by the scales of balance that requires an equal and opposite reaction to every action.  The act of bringing disharmonious energies into harmony is the lesson of Libra.

Under a Libra New Moon we forge new partnerships and find new ways to bring more beauty into our lives. Under the Libra influence, everything around us becomes a mirror reflection of our inner world.  It’s important to understand the interconnectedness between what we experience within, and what we draw into our lives from the outside.  This New Moon can aid in this understanding and facilitate our ability to alchemize every outer experience into a tool for soul transformation.

Lucky Jupiter is nearly exactly aligned with the New Moon, offering a gift of abundance and good luck with a sprinkling of confidence.  The combination of Jupiter and Libra is typically a happy one, full of optimism and an open heart.  But Venus rules the Libra New Moon, and Venus is in the powerful sign of Scorpio.  In Scorpio, Venus drops her guise as the “Goddess of Love” and is revealed as Inanna/Ishtar/Astarte – primal goddess of the power of love as well as war.  In the chart of this New Moon, Scorpio Venus aligns with the Black Moon Lilith, symbol of a primal feminine power (the Dark Feminine) that has long been a subject of fear and ridicule.

Carl Jung writes of the Dark Feminine:

In pilgrimage to the shrine of darkness, something is attempting to come into fuller consciousness.  Through pilgrimage, the rites of mourning are asking to be lived; death is seeking to be fully embraced as part of life; the dark sister, the dark feminine, is asking to be honored.

This New Moon offers an opportunity for all of us, men and women, to dive fearlessly into the depths of the subconscious and find the roots of our own inner power.  From the roots of that sacred inner strength comes the ability to overcome the cloud of fear and to experience the blessings of love and joy.  No less is the lesson of this Libra New Moon.

QUESTIONS AND INTENTIONS FOR THIS LIBRA NEW MOON

  • Where in my life have I been ruled by fear?  “I release my fears and emerge into my life, ready to embrace all that I am given and all that I wish for.
  • Have I released all of my negative patterning about my self worth? “I am a beautiful child of the Universe, worthy of all of the love that I wish for.”
  • What do I desire in my relationships? “I easily give and receive love and my marriage/partnership/relationships are sources of great satisfaction.”
  • Where have I surrendered my power in order to get along? “I relax in the comfort of a feeling of empowerment in every aspect of my life.”

(The New Moon occurs at 8:11 pm Eastern on September 30th and in the wee hours of October 1st GMT)

Pisces lunar eclipse 9/16/16: a watery pool of magic

Full Moon eclipse 9/16/16The second eclipse of the month takes place on September 16th, swinging us from the Virgo influence of the solar eclipse on September to a Pisces-dominated lunar eclipse at the Full Moon. All Full Moons bring a polarity of opposite influences, and here we have the mundane world of Virgo colliding with our feelings and dreams in Pisces.

This Full Moon in Pisces is a watery pool of magic through which we can see with greater intuition than ever before (Pisces); however, in the process we may lose sight momentarily of the worldly details (Virgo) that keep us rooted on Planet Earth.  Using grounding rituals to help us to keep that balance will be helpful.

With Chiron, planet of wounding and healing, there is a sense in this eclipse chart of something coming up from the past that needs to be healed, and an alignment of dreamy Neptune to the South Node of the past brings potential for confusion in a swirl of emotions that require greater balance.  It is more difficult now to determine what we want from our lives and how we might be able to achieve it, especially with Saturn’s cold voice of reality locked right now in a challenging dance with idealistic Neptune.

Venus is in its own sign of Libra right now where fairness and equity become more important, but a a challenging opposition to Uranus (radical change) could bring tension into relationships if we don’t allow space for each individual to flower and prosper.  The Black Moon Lilith aligns with Venus in this eclipse which brings the psychic shadow into consciousness where it can become more fully integrated and bring us greater wholeness.

Eclipses are often associated with an “unmasking” of some kind, and in a lunar eclipse the inner instincts ruled by the Moon prevail over the solar conscious voice of reason.  This is especially true in the sign of Pisces which lives in the realm of feeling.  This is no time for emotional repression – it’s time for us to allow emotions to flow freely, bringing with them the nugget of crystal clear wisdom that illuminates the path.

September 1 2016 solar eclipse: A Fiesta of Virgo

The Virgo New Moon on September 1st is part of a stellium of four planets plus the North Node in Virgo.  A lunar event is said to be an eclipse when it occurs close to the lunar nodes, the points at which the Moon crosses the path of the Sun, and this is astrologically significant because the nodes represent the evolutionary movement of the soul from the past (South Node) to the future (North Node).  This is why eclipses are often linked to significant events – there is a sense of fate with the nodes that comes through in an eclipse.

Today’s eclipse is an eclipse of the Sun at the New Moon – the solar conscious principle is eclipsed by the lunar instincts.  It’s a total eclipse and very significant astrologically since the North Node is just three degrees from the Sun and Moon.  However, because the Moon is farther away from the Earth than at other times, this is called an “annular” eclipse rather than a “total” eclipse.

The energy of this eclipse is powerful.  First of all, the intense concentration of Virgo precision impels us to seek improvement in all areas of our lives.  The details of our human existence are paramount right now and for the next week or so as the eclipse peaks and winds down.  Mercury (the mind) has just turned retrograde and is aligned with Jupiter (confidence and optimism) to expand our sense of what is possible.

The lunation (Sun/Moon/Node) is opposite Neptune (spiritual yearning) which aligns with the South Node to add a nostalgic touch and force us to address karmic patterns from the past that are holding us back.  There is a tension now between the eclipse at the North Node and Neptune at the South Node that will force us to choose a side if there is a major decision facing us right now.

This dynamic is locked in a challenging square with Mars (aggressive force) and Saturn (restriction), both in the expansive sign of Sagittarius.  There is a desire (Mars) to flee (Sag) that is being hampered by Saturn (discipline) which asks that we slow down and not skip any steps along the way.

Fortunately, powerful Pluto (personal transformation) harmonizes with the Sun/Moon/Node to facilitate the pathway and shine the light of wisdom and understanding to keep us moving forward.

New Moons, eclipses are not, are always times for new beginnings.  In Virgo, the sign of order and detail, this is the perfect time for planning and organization as well as, on the higher level of experience, ritual and daily magic.
