Donald Trump astrological update: The “Will He Quit?” edition

If you haven’t already done so, you will probably want to read my profile of Mr. Trump from last year here.  Please note that this post is for astrological interest only and is not intended to disparage.)

The presidency of Donald Trump is now well underway, and it has been an interesting one.  Mr. Trump recently admitted that being President is harder than he thought it would be. As I wrote in my earlier post, Mr. Trump’s chart has Mars in Leo right on the Leo ascendant, a powerful influence that reflects his need to shine in the spotlight and be admired..  Mars is the planet of aggression and independence – Mars does not like to be thwarted or regulated and neither does Mr. Trump.

We would expect someone with Trump’s supreme confidence to have a strong Jupiter component, and we see that Jupiter (planet of good luck and self-righteousness) in the 2nd house of money in a harmonious trine to the Sun.  This trine of Jupiter to the Sun tends to bestow a sense of having been chosen by the gods – there is a tendency towards luck and the kind of success that comes from an abundance of positive thinking.  His Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius Moon helps to cement that super-confidence into a belief system that is virtually unshakeable.

However, there are no planets in earth elements in Trump’s birth chart which would help to ground him and give him a practical sense of moving through the world.  He is all fire and air – energy, enthusiasm and ideas.

One tool that astrologers use for forecasting is the progressed chart which shows how the individual is progressing through time.  In Trump’s progressed chart, the Midheaven (career and public life) is moving towards an alignment with Saturn (tests and challenges).  This influence causes an individual to look more seriously on their life and desire to take on a greater role with more authority – however, there are challenges to be met with Saturn involved.

Click here for chart.  Beginning in December and January Saturn began a cycle affecting other areas of his chart as well, triggering the Full Moon lunar eclipse in his chart which challenges all of his ideas of who he thinks he is.  The Full Moon personality tends to be larger than life, and because that dynamic is also an eclipse there is an unmasking of the emotions that can be difficult to manage. This Saturn cycle will last throughout 2017.

Beginning in May we will see (and are already seeing) a shakeup (Uranus) in the relationships and alliances (Venus) that Trump has surrounded himself with.  At the same time, harmonious aspects to Mars (aggression) enhances his boldness and desire to act swiftly and without much aforethought although the influence of Saturn will frustrate his efforts to act freely.

I don’t really see anything in these planetary cycles to suggest that the frustration will become severe enough to cause him to quit the presidency.  If he does survive this first year, a challenging square from Saturn (frustration) to Neptune (confusion) will erode his confidence and clarity and make it difficult to find a clear path.  This planetary cycle is usually accompanied by a recommendation not to make major decisions, but of course this will not be possible for the president of the United States.

Let’s not forget that the US Pluto Return will begin in 2020-2021 (just a few short years away), and talk of a constitutional crisis is not surprising.  Pluto cycles tend to bring about intense change and the collapse of systems together with the re-emergence of new ones.  The changes that are occurring in the US political system are merely a harbinger of those changes still to come.

The Black Moon Lilith in Astrology

Black Moon Lilith

“Lilith’s Daughter” by Drusila

As some of you know, I have been exploring the meaning of the Black Moon Lilith ever since I discovered she conjoined my Pluto and South Node, explaining a lot about the trauma in my past and relationship issues.

In my experimentation with clients I have come to think of Lilith as describing a primal female rage against the patriarchy and domination of men.  In the story of Lilith, she was Adam’s first wife and was equal to him. When she refused to lie under him Adam threw her out and asked Jehovah to provide him with a more suitable mate and it was then that Jehovah fashioned Eve out of Adam’s rib to ensure that she would remain submissive to him (except for that whole apple thing).  Lilith “flew away” or was banished, depending on who you believe, and spent the rest of her years howling in the night with rage for her children who were killed by the angels of God.  Under the patriarchal religions of the Piscean age she was transformed into a demon, a succubus,

The Black Moon Lilith (not to be confused with the Dark Moon or the Lilith asteroid)  is not a body in the sky, but a focal point between the Earth and the farthest point of the lunar orbit.  (See this image from Kelley Hunter’s excellent article about Lilith.)

In a regression a few years ago I uncovered an ancient life in which during a bloody battle I was raped and my children murdered in front of me.  I have always been fearful of having children and I felt that the residual anxiety from this ancient life had bled into my current one.  Coincidentally, shortly thereafter I calculated the position of the Black Moon Lilith in my chart and discovered its powerful placement in my conjunction from my Moon (mother/children) to Pluto (death and destruction) which are also aligned with my South Node (the past).  This seemed beyond coincidence to me and drove me to experiment with the Black Moon Lilith in every client chart.  I also noticed that the BML, as she is affectionately known, was tightly aligned with the Moon in the chart of my ex and the Sun in my husband’s chart.

From this research I have found that when  the Black Moon Lilith is aligned with another planet or angle (ascendant or midheaven) in the chart there tends to be, in its mildest form, an innate sense of the inequity of the dominant male culture and desire for justice. and in its most extreme, a profound feminine rage against the patriarchical system in general and sometimes against men in particular.  Men with a strong BML in their chart tend to be drawn to women who exhibit Lilith tendencies – powerful in nature and usually with a strong sexual vibration – although this often manifests as an attraction/repulsion dynamic due to a fear of the power of the Lilith archetype.

Rose McGowan astrologyRecently I listened to a podcast with actor Rose McGowan.  I have seen Ms. McGowan in films and television but knew very little about her.  She has been an outspoken warrior for women’s rights for years, but her naked expressions of rage against the unfairness to women in the film industry and her strong

feminist viewpoints were so profoundly Lilithian I had to investigate further. Sure enough, her chart shows a tight conjunction from the Black Moon Lilith to her Moon and in a square to Pluto.  Last year Ms. McGowan revealed that she had been raped by a studio head, and in the podcast she alludes to other traumas in her past.

The rulership of the world by men began to dominate human consciousness during the Age of Aries, the warrior age (approximately 2000 bce to 0 ce), and continued through the age of Pisces, the religious age (approximately – 0ce to 2100).   It was during the Uranus/Pluto conjunction of the mid-1960s that feminine power began to re-emerge, a harbinger of the Age of Aquarius into which we are transitioning.

I believe that the archetype of the Black Moon Lilith is emerging now to help to heal the damage of the past several thousands of years. The fear of the power of women is evident everywhere in our political system right now as the dying Piscean age gives way to the Aquarius ideals and the men that run the world attempt to bring back masculine dominance.  Lilith teaches that we must learn to normalize the archetype of feminine power into our own psyches and our culture in order to find true harmony in the world, and the only way that this can be done is through reclaiming this power within our own selves as women, and for men to honor and respect and even embrace the wisdom of the dark feminine rather than fear it.

The astrology of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds

Carrie Fisher astrology photo by Gage Skidmore

Following the tragic deaths of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds within a day of each other HBO re-released the 2016 documentary about the mother and daughter.  The film depicts clearly the disconnect between the way these two viewed their relationship.  This incongruity is common in all relationships but is particularly painful in connections between mother and child since that is the primal relationship that sets the stage for all of our other connections throughout our life.

One of the gifts of astrology is the lens it provides to see the motivations and energies behind our own actions and the actions of others.  We tend to ascribe our own motivations to the way others behave but if we are able to understand their perspective it can begin to heal the most challenging of relationships.

Carrie Fisher came to fame as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, and since then she has played out her mental illness in the public arena which is not surprising since her Libra Sun, representing her Self, sits at the top of the chart (the Midheaven).  The Midheaven is the cusp of the astrological house of career, and when your Sun/Self sits at that point you tend to live your life in the public eye in some way. Libra seeks balance and harmony through pleasing others, which often comes at a cost to one’s self.  Dutiful Capricorn is rising in the chart, and her Taurus Moon, like Libra, craved the peace of stability and harmony. Carrie’s chart also shows a challenging square between Saturn (self-doubt) to Pluto (destruction) which often results in inner fears that require self-comfort in order to achieve the peace she craved. Both Saturn and Pluto form a challenging square to her Moon, representing the Mother, delineating the intense relationship she had with Debbie Reynolds.

Like many people born between the early 1950s and the late 1980s, Carrie had a stressful opposition between Chiron (the metaphysical energy of wounding and healing) and Uranus (electromagnetic energy of change and radical behavior). This opposition is prevalent in the charts of healers and substance abusers because of the intensity of the energy it generates.  In the HBO documentary family members noted that Carrie had a personality change at the age of 13, and this was exactly the time when transiting Saturn (stress and challenges) formed a challenging square to both Chiron and Uranus, triggering her nervous system in a way that she was unable to handle. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1985 following a transit of both Saturn and Pluto (destruction and rebirth) to her Sun and a nearly fatal drug overdose.

This Chiron/Uranus opposition does not always suggest mental illness, but like other planetary aspects it does require a certain amount of conscious transformation to be utilized successfully. At the time of Carrie’s death, Uranus in the progressed chart had lined up once again with Uranus and Chiron in the natal chart over the past few years, triggering an electrical reaction that likely caused her reported relapse.

Carrie’s relationship with her mother, Debbie Reynolds, is a fascinating one.  The HBO documentary shows how in love Carrie was with her mother – how desperate for her love and attention.  With the Sun in Aries, she was self-oriented and had a strong drive, and a Sun/Uranus (autonomy) conjunction imbued her with a need to live her life her own way.

The synastry between Debbie and Carrie’s charts shows a basic lack of understanding between them but also a deep love, with Debbie’s Venus opposite Carrie’s Moon, a very strong emotional link.  The Nodes in each chart form a harmonious aspect to the Ascendant in the other, a karmic connection.  At the time of their deaths, Debbie at age 84 was in her “Uranus Return,” the time when Uranus returns to its place in the chart and instigates some type of major change.

Perhaps Carrie and Debbie can find the connection now that they both craved during their lifetime.

Pallas and gender issues: The astrology of Stephen Beatty

Click chart to enlarge

Click chart to enlarge

Actor Warren Beatty recently addressed his transgender son Stephen for the first time, putting Stephen in the headlines and bringing him to my attention.  For some time now I’ve been writing that the emergence of transgendered persons such as Chaz Bono into a more mainstream presence is connected with the transition into the Aquarian age.

Stephen Ira Beatty was born Kathryn Elizabeth, the eldest daughter of Warren Beatty and Annette Benning.  Stephen Ira came out as trans at the age of 14, which astrologically is the time when transiting SSaturn opposes Saturn in the natal chart and often sets off a sort of identity crisis or challenge.  Stephen Ira has become an active spokesperson for the transgender community and apparently identifies as a man with feminine traits rather than a straight man.  News reports from 2012 suggest that he hesitated before completing the transition surgery because he didn’t want to give up his feminine side.

Beatty’s astrological chart is fascinating.  His Capricorn Sun gives him a desire to work hard and find success, but it is in a tight conjunction to Neptune (blurring the boundaries) which often confuses the identity when aligned with the Sun (Self) and to Uranus (shattering paradigms), the planetary ruler of the Aquarian age.  This Solar conjunction enjoys a harmonious trine from Jupiter (confidence) which no doubt has helped him to traverse the difficult waters of his complicated personal identity.

There is an indication of emotional pain in a stressful oppoStephen Beattysition between Saturn (tests and challenges) to Chiron (wounding and healing) that denotes an individual with a more intense level of emotional wounds that others have and the necessity to heal these wounds over a lifetime.  In addition, the Black Moon Lilith is tied into that dynamic with a conjunction to Saturn that connects the soul’s earthly work to the primal feminine intuitive power.

I have noticed that the asteroid Pallas is prominent in the charts of many transgendered persons.  In mythology, Pallas Athena was born out of the head of Zeus rather than through a mother’s womb in the normal fashion.  This emergence from the mind rather than the body is significant since in a transgendered individual the identity comes from the mind rather than the physical attributes.  In Beatty’s chart, the asteroid Pallas is tightly (within 6 minutes!!) conjunct his Venus, the planet of love and attraction.

Human behavior is not predictable, and not everyone with this chart will be transgendered.  Planets express themselves somewhat differently through different people, although the basic themes will be similar.  However, it can be helpful to see the underlying dynamics behind our personalities and how we can best utilize these planetary allies to help us grow and evolve.

The astrology of the Brad and Angelina breakup

AngelinaJolieBradPittAAFeb09 (1)Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt yesterday.  Rumors have been flying for years in the celebrity press about his excessive drug usage, her rages, affairs on both sides but in public they appeared to present a united front leading many to express shock at the breakup.

The astrology of Brad and Angelina

When the two first made their relationship public I wrote:

Brad and Angelina are totally different astrologically – each offers the other what is lacking in their own chart. Brad Pitt is a Sagittarius and has Jupiter in Aries which conjoins Jupiter in Angelina’s chart, giving them a sense of opportunity and fortune when they are together. However, Brad has a stellium of planets in responsible earthy Capricorn which can feel heavy and burdensome and Angelina’s fire provides stimulation and excitement. All that earthy Capricorn helps to ground Angelina and gives her a sense of security that she lacks in her own chart. However, all of Angelina’s Aries planets square (conflict with) Brad’s Capricorn planets, creating an environment that is passionate and exciting but could ultimately be destructive. Mars represents our drive and desire and gives a clue to sexual compatibility. Angelina’s Mars is in Aries, which is all fire energy and no body–Brad’s Mars is in Capricorn which is all body and no fire. Their Mars are exactly square (conflict with) each other, which creates a very dynamic sexual attraction but doesn’t hold up over time without a great deal of effort and communication.

The saying “opposites attract” is true in astrology, but we often see that although opposites attract initially, it is difficult to sustain that attraction over time. Quite often in relationships we are attracted to traits in others that we lack, but that isn’t always effective in long term relationships. Angelina has Mercury in Gemini, which is flighty and doesn’t like to be tied down and Brad has Mercury in Capricorn, which is practical and very disciplined. This could lead to communication (Mercury) issues along the way.

The way that each individual’s planets interact with the planets of the other provides lots of interesting information when analyzing relationships. For example, Angelina’s Saturn (limitation and restriction) in Cancer, which squares (conflicts with) the Aries planets in her own chart, also conflicts with the Capricorn planets in Brad’s chart, causing Brad to feel restricted and limited by Angelina.

The astrological beginnings of the relationship

When Brad and Angelina first cemented their relationship, Angelina was going through her first Saturn Return, the period of moving into adulthood when we recognize that time is short and we need to begin to do something worthwhile with our lives.  At the time their relationship became public transiting Saturn was sitting right on Jolie’s Venus, preparing her for commitment.
